About the Opportunity:
Brown University's School of Professional Studies (SPS) brings a Brown education to new audiences of learners: those focused on the development of skills and a breadth of knowledge necessary for professional success and leadership. We leverage Brown's intellectual centers of excellence, rigorous teaching, and developmental approach to learning in a range of programs, including serving students outside of traditional degree programs. We partner with Brown departments, centers, institutes, and schools to develop degree and non-degree programs, and to support the recruitment, retention, and placement success of master's students, including traditional, non-traditional, and professional students.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Systems and Data Reporting analyzes and reports on data for 35+ master's degree programs, as well as for a portfolio of non-degree courses and certificates managed by the School of Professional Studies (SPS). This individual designs, produces, validates, distributes, and updates both quantitative and qualitative reports, queries, and data visualizations to support data-informed decision making in all facets of SPS's processes, including the recruitment funnel (program prospects, inquiries, applicants, admission decisions, matriculants, and defers). The Assistant Director provides timely and interpretive reports for the Director of Admissions and Data Analytics, Director of Executive Education, SPS's Senior Leadership Team, and others to inform recruitment, communication, selection, and enrollment strategies and policies. The incumbent will be expected to make recommendations on how to improve SPS enrollments based on data analysis from multiple sources.
The Assistant Director will work with the Associate Director of Master's Admissions Systems and others to identify data needs and develop tools in relevant systems (Technolutions Slate, Tableau, IBM Cognos Analytics) to address those needs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
- Four or more years of experience administering daily systems operations, preferably in a college admissions environment
- Experience building CJ-based queries and validating data in Technolutions Slate
- Experience building workspaces and workflows in a CRM or relational database
- Experience working with integrated student database systems
- Demonstrated understanding of complex table joins and database query language
- Experience creating data connections between Tableau Server and various data sources
- Demonstrated proficiency developing dashboards that are intuitive, impactful, user friendly, multi-faceted, and visually appealing
- Experience with manipulating data from a relational database
- Ability to craft logic formulas and calculations to display data in a clear way
Preferred
- Previous experience in higher education
- Degree in business/data analytics, computer science, management information systems or technically related field
- Experience with Ellucian Banner or other student information and customer relationship management systems
- Experience developing and providing training to a professional and potentially non-technical audience
Salary Grade:
10
Additional Information:
Applicants are asked to include a resume. In a separate document, please also respond to the following questions in lieu of a cover letter (no more than 1-2 pages, please):
1. Data Integrity & Validation
Please describe your personal process for validating a new query or report before it reaches leadership. What specific "checks" or habits do you use to ensure data remains consistent when moving between systems like Slate, Tableau, and Banner?
2. Analytical Framework & Decision Support
How do you translate complex metrics into clear recommendations for senior leadership? Additionally, how do you approach designing visualizations so that non-technical stakeholders can make quick, informed decisions?
3. Data Analysis
Tell us about a time an analysis you completed revealed an unexpected pattern or outcome. What was the situation, how did your analysis highlight this discrepancy, and how did you communicate the findings to your audience? What were the resulting recommendations or actions taken?
All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
