Job Description / Essential Elements:
DEFINITION:
Under the general supervision of the Child Nutrition Supervisor and direction of the Child Nutrition Worker III, perform manual tasks such as washing dishes and/or acts as a cashier in the school cafeteria; will assist in the cleaning of the kitchen, serving area, and food service utensils and equipment; may participate in the preparation and serving of meals and perform other related work as needed.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is the entry level class in the Child Nutrition series. This class is distinguished from the Child Nutrition Worker I by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to position within the series including cleaning equipment and serving as cashier. Employees in this class may have only limited or no directly related work experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Responsible for washing and storing dishes, utensils, containers and trays.
2. May act as cashier, collecting money received from the sale of foods as required.
3. Assist in the preparation and serving of the main dish, salad, vegetable and other menu items.
4. Provide assistance in receiving and storing of foodstuffs, supplies and materials.
5. Assist in maintaining inventory control and operational records.
6. May operate kitchen cooking and cleaning machinery including oven, mixer, grater, slicer and dishwasher.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Knowledge of:

โ€ข Operate and maintain food service related equipment.
โ€ข Work efficiently and effectively.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
This is an entry level job position, no cafeteria experience required, however food service experience is desirable. Educational requirement: high school diploma or equivalent.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE:
Must maintain a current First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross, including CPR training (must submit within first six months of employment).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
Require the ability to stand for sustained periods of time.
Perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 40 pounds.
May be required to wear probective apparel including goggles, face protectors, aprons, and shoes.
May be required to work around loud noise.
May be required to work around moving mechanical parts.
