What is an assistant technical drafting?

An Assistant Technical Drafting job involves supporting engineers, architects, or designers by creating and revising technical drawings and blueprints. These professionals use computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce detailed plans for buildings, machinery, or other structures. Their responsibilities may also include maintaining drawing files, assisting with project documentation, and ensuring that designs comply with relevant standards. Assistant Technical Drafters play a key role in the design process by helping to turn ideas and concepts into precise technical documents.

What does an assistant technical drafting do?

As an Assistant Technical Drafting professional, your daily tasks will often include preparing and revising technical drawings and blueprints under the guidance of senior drafters or engineers. Collaboration is common—you'll frequently communicate with engineers, architects, and other team members to clarify requirements and resolve discrepancies. This role provides a great opportunity to develop technical skills and gain exposure to larger projects within a supportive team environment.
