Position: Systems Engineer, Associate
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
*Pay Range: $26.00 - $33.65 CAD hourly
POSITION SUMMARY:
Company 3 is a global leader in media and entertainment services for film, video, and online content. With operations in Los Angeles, New York, and around the globe, the company employs over 3,500 of the most talented, highly honored, and recognized artists and industry veterans worldwide. SDFX Studios is a premier global visual effects and post-production company specializing in high quality 2D-to-3D theatrical conversions, animation, and comprehensive VFX services.
The Associate Systems Engineer will support VFX infrastructure and technology for the business unit. You will participate in deploying infrastructure and supporting creative and production staff, partnering with your local team on projects and initiatives.
MAIN DUTIES:
The Associate Systems Engineer will support both Windows and Linux desktop infrastructure, as well as support the other members of the group with duties across all areas of technology. They will collaborate with IT, support, and engineering teams to ensure people and infrastructure are able to function. Answer helpdesk support and queries and escalate issues to other team members, document IT functions and data-center inventory on an on-going basis and participate in companywide IT projects and initiatives supporting the local engineering team. They will assist with datacenter operations including racking, cabling, and hardware lifecycle, and administer and maintain supporting infrastructure:
  • Windows Desktops (Windows 10 and Windows 11)
  • Linux Desktops (Rocky)
  • MacOS Desktop
  • DNS and DHCP and related operations
  • On-boarding and off-boarding of staff.
  • Assist other members of team on projects and tasks where appropriate.

WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will bring previous experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience. They will bring hands-on experience with Linux and Windows desktops. They will bring a keen understanding of systems engineering and a willingness to learn new technologies and IT principles. They will bring experience supporting technology and staff in a creative environment. Additional desired skills include:
  • Strong understanding of Linux and Windows Desktops
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies
  • Understanding of automation of IT and Engineering tasks
  • Understanding of Windows Server technologies such as Active Directory
  • Understanding of networking principles and protocols.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for datacenter tasks.
  • Prior experience in VFX and media & entertainment environments is a huge asset.
  • Understanding of networking principles and protocols
  • Work on site 4 days a week.
  • Participate in after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call rotations.
