Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and document high-level requirements for new or proposed projects, translating stakeholder needs into technical specifications.
  • Facilitate expansion of high-level requirements into traceable lower-level Systems, Structures, and Components (SSCs) requirements with clear parent-child relationships.
  • Implement and maintain requirements in systems integration tools (Visure, DOORS, DOORS Next Gen).
  • Establish and enforce requirements quality standards including measurability, testability, traceability, and completeness.
  • Define and document interfaces between systems, ensuring both sides of each interface specify performance parameters (flow rates, pressures, temperatures, data protocols, etc.).
  • Coordinate interface requirements across facility systems (electrical, mechanical, controls, safety, etc.).
  • Write and critically review technical documents (Design Interface Requirements, Engineering Design Specifications, Design Verification Records).
  • Support project leads in translating operational needs and safety requirements into equipment design specifications.
  • Coordinate with quality assurance to ensure traceability through design, fabrication, and testing.
  • Support project leads in risk identification, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Assist in developing cost models for proposed projects based on requirements scope.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Train engineers on requirements quality principles and systems integration tools.
  • Implement model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches on projects from concept through detailed design.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM discipline from U.S.-based ABET-accredited university with minimum 3 years relevant experience, OR a Master's degree with 1-2 years of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) experience.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1, ISO 9001, or equivalent quality control systems.
  • Understanding of design control principles and formal change management.
  • Background in hardware based industry with strict workflow and quality assurance standards (nuclear, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or similar).
  • Experience working with suppliers/vendors to define technical specifications and evaluate design responses.
  • understanding of requirements hierarchy and flow-down.
  • Knowledge of verification methods and their application.
  • Familiarity with interface management principles.
  • Experience with requirements, traceability and configuration management.
  • Demonstrated experience developing technical requirements for hardware systems (mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation).
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control system documentation.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using systems integration software (DOORS, Visure, GENESYS, or similar requirements management tools).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification.
  • Experience with design verification and validation processes (FAT, SAT, commissioning).
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classifications, safety instrumented systems, or explosion prevention systems.
  • Experience in regulated industries requiring formal requirements management (nuclear, aerospace, FDA regulated).
  • Background in process equipment, manufacturing systems, or production facility design.
  • Experience with risk management methodologies and risk tracking.
  • Experience with cost estimation and project financial planning.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME, NFPA, OSHA, NEC, ISA).

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is in Oak Ridge, TN.
  • Schedule is full-time, Monday โ€“ Friday 40-hour week.
