Assistant Superintendent – Construction (Hospitality Renovations)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Assistant Superintendent to join our construction team for a hospitality renovation project in Stamford, CT.

The Assistant Superintendent will work directly with the Senior Superintendent and Project Management team to support the day-to-day field operations of the project. This is a hands-on, on-site position responsible for coordinating subcontractors, monitoring progress, maintaining quality and safety standards, assisting with scheduling, and helping ensure the project remains organized and on track.

The ideal candidate is a dependable and proactive construction professional who is comfortable working in the field, communicating with subcontractors and vendors, reading construction drawings, identifying potential issues, and taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.

This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Assistant Superintendent or a strong Field Supervisor looking to grow into a larger Superintendent role.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations

  • Assist the Senior Superintendent with the day-to-day management of construction activities on site.
  • Coordinate and monitor subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, and field personnel.
  • Help establish and maintain daily and weekly work plans.
  • Monitor subcontractor progress and verify that work is being performed according to the project schedule, plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular job-site walks to identify conflicts, incomplete work, safety concerns, and potential schedule impacts.
  • Assist with coordinating site logistics, material deliveries, staging, access, and work areas.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site.
  • Assist with coordinating inspections, testing, and required site activities.
  • Communicate field conditions and project issues to the Senior Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Assist with coordinating multiple trades to ensure proper sequencing and minimize conflicts.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Assist with maintaining the project schedule and tracking daily and weekly progress.
  • Monitor subcontractor manpower and productivity.
  • Identify potential delays and communicate them to the Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Assist with coordinating upcoming work and ensuring subcontractors are prepared with the necessary manpower, materials, equipment, and information.
  • Participate in subcontractor coordination and weekly project meetings.
  • Help maintain short-term look-ahead schedules and daily activity plans.

Quality Control

  • Monitor work in progress to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Assist the Superintendent with quality-control inspections and punch-list activities.
  • Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrections with subcontractors.
  • Review completed work and help ensure areas are ready for inspections and subsequent trades.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship throughout the project.

Safety

  • Support and enforce all company and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular site observations to identify unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Communicate safety concerns immediately to the Senior Superintendent.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe working environment for employees, subcontractors, vendors, and other site personnel.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other required safety activities.

Documentation & Project Support

  • Maintain accurate daily field reports, photographs, manpower reports, and progress documentation.
  • Assist with tracking RFIs, submittals, inspections, deliveries, and other project documentation.
  • Use construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms to document and track project activities.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with maintaining organized project records.
  • Document field conditions and potential changes or unforeseen conditions.
  • Assist with punch-list tracking, closeout activities, and final project documentation.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Work closely with the Senior Superintendent, Project Manager, subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and client representatives.
  • Maintain professional and effective communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Escalate project issues promptly and help develop practical solutions.
  • Represent the company professionally on the job site.
  • Build positive working relationships with subcontractors and field personnel.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through to completion.

Requirements

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably in a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent capacity.
  • Hospitality, hotel, commercial renovation, or interior construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction field operations and trade sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and monitoring field activities.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety and quality-control practices.
  • Experience working in occupied or active hospitality/commercial environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction management software preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify problems in the field and communicate solutions effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting the Senior Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Must be comfortable working full-time on an active construction site in Stamford, CT.
