Job description

The successful Equipment Operator/Stevedore candidate will safely perform the basic tasks required to load, unload, and move breakbulk/bulk products, including aggregates, breakbulk (lumber, plywood, paper, etc.), and containers at our Marine Terminal located in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Here is what you will be doing

  • Follow proper safety rules and operating procedures to support zero tolerance safety objectives
  • Load and unload cargo from ships at port, coordinating the movement of cargo to and from vessels, ensuring cargo is securely fastened and stowed, planning and coordinating the placement of cargo on ships, assist in maintaining vessel gear
  • Operate/maintain heavy equipment, including front-end loaders, reach stackers, forklift jockey trucks, mobile harbor crane and gantry crane
  • Complete and maintain required daily paperwork
  • Housekeeping duties, sweeping, washing down of work areas, and keeping restrooms, break rooms, and work rooms clean and tidy
  • Occasionally work in areas outside of your normal duties, when instructed by supervisor

Requirements of a Successful Equipment Operator/Stevedore 

  • 1 year of stevedoring/dock experience, 1 year of marine, plant, or industrial equipment experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain a TWIC card, must have a Valid Driver’s License
  • Be able to read, write, and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions
  • Physically able to handle large tools, climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend ladders, and should not have a fear of heights
  • Must be able to work a rotating (days/nights)12-hour shift to include weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Equipment certifications are a plus
