The Prairie Description:

The Prairie Recovery Center is a 30 bed co-gender residential substance abuse treatment facility located in Round Top, TX that specializes in co-occurring mental health issues. The Prairie Recovery Center treats a variety of special populations including professionals, veterans and first responders. Nestled in 46+ acres of lush green fields in Round Top—a mere 90 minutes away from Houston, Austin and San Antonio—The Prairie Recovery Center is a peaceful, countryside destination with a late 1800’s farmhouse serving as the heart of the expansive facility. Cozy guest cabins and common areas are outfitted with beautiful furnishings and designer antique décor, while panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country encircle the property.


Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Position Summary:

The Prairie Recovery Center is seeking Full-Time Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) to serve as active parts of the patient treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to clients. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about mental health or substance abuse patient care in a fast-paced environment with a multidisciplinary treatment team.


Shifts: Openings for day shifts (7am-7pm). Candidates must be flexible to shift scheduling, including weekends, though we will work to try and meet the needs of candidates.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for patients.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and establishing and maintaining good health by using effective, therapeutic communication techniques.
  • Conduct environmental rounds of the facility for safety, and document observations.
  • Facilitate patients’ participation in therapeutic activities and groups.
  • Implement crisis management skills as directed by licensed staff.
  • Assist in cleaning common areas.

Job Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred though not required.

Experience: One year of related experience, with prior work experience in the recovery space, mental health and/or substance abuse treatment preferred.

Licensure: Must maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
