Job description

Service Technician Manager

Position Summary

The Service Technician Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical operations, maintenance, repair, and service of swimming pools, spas, aquatic systems, and related equipment. This position provides leadership to pool service technicians, ensures high standards of water quality and equipment performance, coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensures compliance with applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements.

The Service Technician Manager serves as a technical resource for staff and management and is responsible for developing efficient service programs that maintain aquatic facilities in safe, reliable, and operational condition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Operations

  • Oversee the daily technical operations of pool and aquatic facility maintenance and service programs.
  • Inspect pools, spas, filtration systems, pumps, heaters, chemical systems, circulation systems, controllers, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, and water-quality issues.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for aquatic equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate repairs, equipment replacements, upgrades, and improvement projects.
  • Review technical service reports and ensure deficiencies are identified and addressed promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, water testing, chemical usage, and equipment performance.
  • Evaluate equipment condition and recommend capital improvements or replacement schedules.

Water Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of water treatment and chemical systems.
  • Monitor water chemistry and ensure testing and documentation are completed as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local health, safety, environmental, and aquatic facility regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate chemical storage, handling, labeling, and safety procedures.
  • Respond promptly to water-quality concerns, equipment failures, and safety issues.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, inspectors, contractors, and other stakeholders as necessary.

Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate pool service technicians and maintenance personnel.
  • Assign daily work orders, service routes, inspections, and repair projects.
  • Establish performance standards and ensure staff follow approved procedures and safety practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to technicians.
  • Conduct regular staff training on equipment, water chemistry, safety, and maintenance procedures.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, customer service, and professional development.

Customer & Facility Support

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for facility managers, property managers, customers, and internal departments.
  • Investigate service concerns and provide appropriate technical solutions.
  • Communicate equipment conditions, repair requirements, timelines, and recommendations clearly.
  • Coordinate scheduled service, emergency repairs, and after-hours response when necessary.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality and compliance with established standards.

Budget & Vendor Management

  • Assist with preparation and management of departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Obtain and evaluate vendor proposals, estimates, and equipment specifications.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs, installations, and service work.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels for chemicals, parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, construction, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pool, aquatic facility, mechanical, facilities, or related maintenance operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pool circulation, filtration, heating, chemical treatment, and water-quality systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting pumps, motors, filters, heaters, valves, chemical controllers, and related aquatic equipment.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Construction experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety and chemical handling procedures.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, technical specifications, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, if required for the position.

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) or equivalent certification.
  • C-53 Certification
  • Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification.
  • Relevant state or local pool operator certification.
  • OSHA or other applicable safety training.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
