About this Job The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for an experienced AAG/Assistant Solicitor General in the Federalism Division to represent the State of Louisiana in state and federal habeas corpus proceedings. The candidate will be an exceptional litigator working in a high-volume, deadline driven environment while successfully defending the validity of criminal convictions in state and federal courts. Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.

Job Duties and Other Information The position of AAG/Assistant Solicitor General may consist of, but is not limited to, the following duties: Serve as lead counsel for the State in all assigned state and federal habeas corpus proceedings; Draft and file answers, motions to dismiss, briefs, and other pleadings in state and federal courts; Analyze trial records, appellate decisions, and post-conviction filings to assess claims and develop litigation strategy; Ensure compliance with all procedural requirements; Represent the State in evidentiary hearings, oral arguments, and status conferences in state and federal courts; Coordinate with trial prosecutors, appellate attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and court personnel as needed; Track and manage deadlines and case status for multiple complex matters; Provide legal advice and recommendations to division leadership on habeas-related issues and emerging legal trends; Any additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
