Job description

SOLAR PROJECT ENGINEER POSITION

621 Energy is looking for an engineer to assist in our growing efforts in implementing solar energy projects for our commercial and nonprofit customers. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, possess excellent communications skills, and be detail oriented. This full-time hybrid role is based at our West Concord, MA office.

Reporting to the Principal of 621 Energy, this position is responsible for technical implementation of the company’s solar PV projects, primarily within Massachusetts. The Project Engineer is responsible for all technical aspects of project design, construction, and commissioning of assigned solar projects, and ensuring that milestones are met throughout the life of the project. The Project Engineer handles multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of development and construction.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform site visits for project feasibility and assist with preliminary site layouts and energy production modelling
  2. Conduct onsite assessments and develop comprehensive solar designs including equipment layouts, site plans, structural drawings, engineering calculations, and electrical schematics that conform to NEC codes and permitting requirements using Sketchup, Layout, Excel, Helioscope and other design tools
  3. Produce construction document sets, bill of materials, equipment specifications, and drawings that will be used for construction, as well as creating as built documentation
  4. Support utility interconnection and permitting application processes
  5. Provide support and quality control of installation team during construction by understanding all installation manuals, training installers as required, providing accurate locations for racking and other equipment in the field, review of installation quality and adherence to drawings
  6. Provide start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new systems and existing systems
  7. Effectively communicate with project stakeholders including clients, professional engineers, contractors and coworkers
  8. Provide design and technical implementation of a high quality project within the intended scope, timeframe, budget, and client expectations
  9. Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes
  10. Assist in the evaluation of project performance and implement strategies to improve safety, quality, profitability, and customer satisfaction

DESIRED TRAITS/QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Degree in engineering or equivalent educational/certification background
  2. One year minimum Solar PV design experience
  3. Proficient in technical knowledge of solar PV design, building codes and NEC.
  4. Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
  5. Ability to be “hands on” in the field for troubleshooting and installation assistance
  6. Strong communication and organization skills
  7. Quick learner with sound judgement, strong attention to detail, and ability to solve problems
  8. Passionate about delivering outstanding customer service both internally and externally
  9. Able to contribute to an inclusive, collaborative working environment and mentor less experienced team members
  10. Team player who can flex to fill different roles in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  11. Access to personal transportation required to get to job sites

All full-time positions are hybrid. Typically 2 days per week at our West Concord office with remaining days either remote or at job-sites.
