The pay listed is the hourly rate for this position as outlined by the collective bargaining agreement.
Benefit Information:
This is a union position and as such will include union benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
Shift: Swing Shift, Tuesday - Friday, 2PM thru 10PM. Saturday 3:30 PM thru 11:30 PM
The Building Engineer holds full responsibility for the management and operation of facility services within mission-critical environments. Serving as the primary ABM point of contact for daily operations, this role supports site leadership in overseeing all building systems, including HVAC, mechanical, and electrical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include maintenance and repair of hard surfaces, basic carpentry and metalwork, and the operation and upkeep of facility system equipment. The Building Engineer also handles customer service requests, manages work orders, and performs additional duties as assigned.
This role is instrumental in fostering a culture of safety and reliability, building and leading a team of Critical Facility Technicians, Assistant Chief Engineers, and external contractors to achieve 100% operational availability. A strong emphasis is placed on continuous improvement, staff development, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of critical infrastructure operations within mission-critical facilities

  • Ensure high-quality execution of work with zero impact to internal or external customers

  • Provide supervisory oversight and escalate emergency responses as needed

  • Develop and maintain accurate site-level operating procedures and documentation

  • Manage Change Management, MOP, SOP, and EOP programs

  • Oversee operational budgets and contract expenditures

  • Maintain and operate both critical and non-critical infrastructure systems

  • Monitor power and cooling capacity, and environmental conditions

  • Resolve electrical, mechanical, and fire protection system issues with minimal business disruption

  • Serve as the single point-of-contact for all facility-related matters including scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and project coordination

  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and guide resolution strategies

  • Audit CMMS databases for accuracy; manage reporting, access control, and user credentials

  • Control access to mission-critical spaces and maintain updated access lists

  • Advise on space and power utilization; manage environmental conditions in data centers

  • Ensure compliance with SLAs and Change Control protocols; approve system modifications

  • Manage employee schedules, timekeeping, and payroll processing

  • Monitor and enforce ABM training standards

  • Vet and approve subcontractors; develop and oversee PM contract scopes-of-work

Qualifications
  • 5 plus years of engineering experience.
  • Engineering skills sets which can be applied to a range of systems, maintenance programs and engines.
  • Must meet all requirements to receive approval for working in specific ATS environments (if applicable), including ten-year work history if available.
  • Customer Service Experience.

Certifications:
  • BOMA Certification

Experience:
  • Experience in the installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of fire safety equipment is preferred.
  • One (1) year of similar work experience
  • Experience performing duties to support laboratory, GMP environments, and/or mission critically preferred.
