Student Operations Assistant - School of Data Science

Position Overview:
The School of Data Science is hiring motivated and reliable student workers to support daily building operations, events, and basic IT/AV needs. This role is ideal for students who are detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities in a professional setting. You'll be part of a team that helps keep the building running smoothly-from restocking kitchens and supplies to assisting with event setup and tech inventory.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operations

  • Serve as a friendly, professional presence at the front desk and provide directions or information to visitors.
  • Restock kitchen and bathroom supplies, wipe down surfaces, and report when inventory needs to be reordered.
  • Monitor classroom and shared spaces for cleanliness and supply levels (e.g., whiteboard markers, paper towels).
  • Accept, sort, and deliver mail and packages; assist with putting away inventory deliveries.
  • Maintain a daily parking log for reserved and visitor spots.

Weekly & As-Needed Tasks

  • Perform weekly inventory checks across supply rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and satellite buildings; compile a purchase list.
  • Clean conference rooms and shared fridges; ensure tackboards and wellness rooms meet posted standards.
  • Assist with routine building support projects and respond to task requests from administrative staff.

Event & Tech Support

  • Provide set-up and take-down support for internal events.
  • Assist with AV setup, equipment inventory, and occasional IT projects (e.g., software upgrades, equipment surplus coordination)

Qualifications

  • Current UVA student in good academic standing.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Basic tech comfort preferred (especially for those interested in IT or operations support).
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs on occasion.

Compensation:$16.00-$18.00 per hour
