Job description
Provide advanced practice nursing care specializing in behavioral health for patients across the lifespan in an ambulatory clinic and/or hospital setting. Responsibilities include psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, therapeutic intervention, and coordination of care with the interdisciplinary team. The NP/PMHNP plays a key role in improving access to behavioral health services and ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
Essential Job Responsibilities- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Conduct psychiatric and behavioral health evaluations for new and established patients
- Diagnose and manage mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, psychosis, and mood disorders
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications in accordance with evidence-based practice and state/federal guidelines
- Provide brief therapeutic interventions and supportive counseling as appropriate
- Collaborate with physicians, social workers, therapists, and nursing staff to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans
- Educate patients and families regarding psychiatric diagnoses, treatment options, and medication management
- Ensure continuity of care by coordinating referrals to specialty providers and community resources
- Document all patient encounters in the electronic health record in a timely and accurate manner
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements in accordance with state regulations
- Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in all patient and staff interactions
- Serve as a resource for staff education on behavioral health topics and evidence-based practices
- Provide crisis intervention and support in urgent or emergent psychiatric situations

- Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of New Mexico (or eligibility for licensure)
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) preferred, or NP with documented behavioral health training and experience
- Current DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings strongly preferred
- Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.

- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
