Job Summary
Build tows using cables and lines in order to assist others on the vessel in preparing barges for the loading, transporting, and discharging of aggregate barges. Assist coworkers with handling and assembling deck lines, rigging during tow building, and locking and docking activities. Perform daily inspections and maintenance of the interior and exterior of the vessel in order to ensure safe working conditions. Take an active role in prioritizing safety in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards throughout the plant for yourself and others at all times.
Essential Functions

Build tows using cables and lines in order to assist others on the vessel in preparing barges for the loading, transporting, and discharging of aggregate barges.
Assist coworkers with handling and assembling deck lines, rigging during tow building, and locking and docking activities.
Perform daily inspections and maintenance of the interior and exterior of the vessel in order to ensure safe working conditions.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including cleaning, scraping, painting, and changing all oil and filters throughout the vessel.
Assemble deck lines

Perform scheduled preventative vessel maintenance to include cleaning, scraping, painting, and changing all oil and filters
Inspect, correct if possible, and notify the Captain of any conditions, which will affect the safety of the tow or tug.
Care for tools and equipment
Assist on taking on provisions to include fuel, water, groceries and other supplies
Must be able to perform all duties while wearing protective equipment to include foul weather gear, life jacket, gloves and boots.
Must be able to perform all duties necessary to navigate locks.
Must be able to adhere to and comply with company policies, United States Coast Guard, and environmental regulations.

High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.
Experience
Candidate with valid Merchant Marine Document (Z-Card) preferred.
Previous experience as deck hand preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be willing to work overtime and consecutive days straight on a rotation watch schedule while on board (ex. 6 hours on, 6 hours off).
Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions while wearing protective equipment, including foul weather gear, life jacket, gloves, and boots.
Must have knowledge of general principles and practices regarding marine safety and operations.
Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
Knowledge of United States Coast Guard and Environmental regulations.
Other Requirements
Working hours flexibility with company demands.
Able to work on a water vessel and travel multiple days in a row with rotating work shifts.
Comprehend essential information related to:
  Spill containment and cleanup
  MSDS sheets and emergency action information
  Safety meeting
Candidate with a valid Driver's License preferred.
