Seeking a Reproductive Veterinary Assistant

North Oatlands Animal Hospital is hiring a full-time Reproductive Vet Assistant to work alongside our team of experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and devoted support staff to ensure each animal receives the best possible care during their stay with us. If you are enthusiastic, reliable, and excited about helping us maintain our high standards of animal care and customer service, we would love to hear from you!

What to Expect

As you join our mission to create a better world for animals and the people who love them, expect to be supported in your work and home life with:

  • All the benefits you deserve-medical, dental, vision, retirement-plus an employee pet discount because we know your pets are family, too.
  • Paid time off. Catch your breath with paid holidays and PTO.

Salary: $20-$30/hr based on experience and skillset.

Schedule: Will work full-time hours, need rotational weekend availability

Reproductive Veterinary Assistant

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries, including C-sections, TCI/surgical inseminations, and ovariohysterectomies
  • Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately, including intact males and females, pregnant/whelping bitches, and dams with litters
  • Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces
  • Assist with semen collection, evaluation, and processing - motility and morphology counts, extending, chilling, and packaging for shipment
  • Prepare and ship chilled or frozen semen, including documentation, permits, and courier coordination
  • Handle and maintain liquid nitrogen tanks and frozen semen inventory, including tank levels, canister logs, and storage records
  • Assist with progesterone and LH testing, sample processing, and timely reporting of results for breeding timing
  • Set up and assist with reproductive ultrasound, pregnancy confirmation, fetal countdown/whelp-date monitoring, and radiographic puppy counts
  • Assist with whelping supervision, neonatal resuscitation and care - warming, tube/bottle feeding, weight tracking, and monitoring of at-risk newborns
  • Perform basic laboratory tests, such as collecting blood, urine, stool, and vaginal cytology samples
  • Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian
  • Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed
  • Maintain accurate medical records, including breeding, heat cycle, semen inventory, and litter/registration records
  • Communicate with pet owners and breeders about their animals' care, breeding timelines, treatment plans, and follow-up visits
  • Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting; reproductive or breeding experience strongly preferred
  • Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment
  • Understanding of canine estrous cycles, breeding timing, gestation, and neonatal care
  • Comfort working with breeders and handling detailed pedigree, registry, and shipping paperwork (AKC/registry requirements a plus)
  • Willingness to work an on-call, weekend, or after-hours schedule - breedings and whelpings don't follow business hours
  • Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately, and to safely work with cryogenic materials
