As a Direct Care Counselor at Walker, you'll work directly with children and teens who are navigating social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Essential Functionsย 

Direct Care and Milieu Managementย 

  • Directly supervise children and teens in residential and school settingsย 

  • Provide a therapeutic milieu environment, maintaining a safe and healthy setting that meets the physical and emotional needs of youthย 

  • Plan and implement engaging social and recreational activities for children and teensย 

  • Assist with daily living activities and help youth develop independent living skillsย 

  • Apply Walkerโ€™s relationship-based childcare model; use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies and physical restraint only when necessary for safetyย 

Treatment and Clinical Supportย 

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of youthย 

  • Implement treatment protocols established in youthโ€™s treatment plans, IEPs, and individual crisis management plansย 

  • Administer medication in accordance with Walker's policies and proceduresย 

  • Respond to emergencies quickly and safely using TCI and crisis intervention skillsย 

  • Participate actively in supervision and remain receptive to feedback and professional developmentย 

Documentation and Administrative Functionsย 

  • Attend required meetings and team conferencesย 

  • Complete oral and written reports accurately and on timeย 

  • Maintain proper documentation of care provided and incidentsย 

Otherย ย 

  • Perform all other duties as assignedย 

Skills and Abilitiesย

Educationย 

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associateโ€™s degree preferredย

Schedule Optionsย 

We offer flexible scheduling with 4-day work week options:ย 

  • Second Shift: Sunday-Wednesdayย 

  • Second Shift: Wednesday-Saturdayย 

  • Overnight: Weekend (Friday โ€“ Monday)ย 

  • Overnight: Weeknight (Monday โ€“ Thursday)ย 

  • Bi-weekly rotating schedulesย 

  • Other flexibility considered based on program needsย
