Position Title Relocation Specialist Department GCDC-Construction Reports to Relocation Manager Location Hybrid- Chicago, IL (75% Travel) FLSA Status Exempt Salary Range $65,000-85,000
Job Summary
The Resident Relocation Coordinator is a key member of the relocation team responsible for managing and coordinating resident relocation activities across multiple project sites. This role works closely with residents, property management teams, construction partners, and third-party vendors to ensure smooth, compliant, and timely relocation processes.
The coordinator provides direct assistance to residents throughout the relocation process, including assessments, move coordination, counseling, documentation, and follow-up support. The role requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple relocation tasks simultaneously while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local relocation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Relocation Coordination
  • Conduct resident assessments and surveys to understand relocation needs and preferences.
  • Take inventory of tenant belongings and furniture, including documenting large items, infestation issues, clutter, or hoarding concerns.
  • Provide relocation counseling and assistance in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Notify residents of relocation timelines and provide ongoing support throughout the moving process.
  • Conduct follow-up check-ins with residents leading up to scheduled move dates.

Site and Vendor Coordination
  • Assist with site setup activities and identify vendors including movers, cleaners, and pest control companies.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise moving activities and related services.
  • Conduct pre-inspections of relocation units to ensure they meet safety and habitability standards before occupancy.
  • Coordinate with construction teams, property management, development teams, and contractors to ensure relocation timelines are met.

Resident Communication
  • Facilitate resident and community meetings regarding relocation processes, rights, and benefits.
  • Distribute relocation notices and maintain proof of resident receipt as required.
  • Act as liaison between residents, property management, construction teams, and clients.
  • Interface with residents' families, social service providers, or other support resources when necessary.

Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate relocation files, documentation, and database records.
  • Track relocation progress and maintain data reporting systems.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly relocation reports for management and project stakeholders.
  • Develop agendas and record minutes for relocation meetings and distribute within 48 hours.

Move Logistics & Support
  • Provide packing materials, tips, demonstrations, and moving assistance to residents.
  • Assist with utility disconnections, reconnections, and address changes when needed.
  • Ensure residents vacate units per relocation schedules and that units are properly secured after move-out.
  • Document and assist in resolving claims related to property damage or loss during relocation.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in relocation services, property management, social services, customer service, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and community-based programs is highly desirable.

Other Requirements
  • Travel to and from project sites is expected.
  • Occasional airline travel may be required.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required depending on project needs.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote/field-based environment.
  • Willingness to participate in community meetings and resident engagement activities.
