Position Highlights
The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health is seeking a Research Professional I to support the implementation of a multi-level behavioral sleep fitness program across 20 fire service agencies throughout Arizona. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with fire service stakeholders and an interdisciplinary research team to advance innovative behavioral health research that supports the health and well-being of firefighters.
Working as part of a collaborative research team, the Research Professional I will support participant enrollment and engagement, monitor participant progress throughout the study protocol, and contribute to the formulation of research methods. The position will also participate in the collection, preparation, and management of behavioral health data and assist in the dissemination of research findings. Success in this role requires strong cross-functional coordination across assessment, coaching, implementation, and regulatory teams to ensure aligned, efficient, and timely study operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Coordinates core study activities across the assessment, coaching, and implementation teams to ensure protocol milestones are met.
• Tracks timelines, synchronizes workflows, resolves delays, and provides training to new staff members.
• Supports multi-level coordination to maintain operational alignment across all study cores.
• Coordinates recruitment and retention activities with fire service agencies by assisting with planning, preparing materials, scheduling, and coordinating stakeholder-driven strategies under the guidance of senior research staff.
• Supports engagement with fire service agencies and assists with agency adoption and sustainment of the evidence-based sleep health program using established implementation-science procedures.
• Collaborates with agencies to help develop, adapt, and refine implementation plans; documents barriers reported by agencies for review by senior staff; and supports troubleshooting to maintain program fidelity.
• Maintains the implementation procedures manual; assists with routine communication with research staff and fire service partners; and supports procurement and distribution of recruitment materials.
• Provides administrative and technical support aligned with agency implementation plans, assists with training study team members on implementation procedures, and supports documentation related to protocol adherence and regulatory requirements.
• Contributes to stakeholder relationship management and assists with dissemination activities as directed.
• Performs participant enrollment processes, including eligibility review, enrollment tracking, reminder communications, and monitoring of drops or withdrawals.
• Maintains accurate and timely enrollment records through a master code database in REDCap.
• Identifies enrollment discrepancies or data integrity issues and refers them to senior research staff for resolution.
• Prepares and coordinates IRB applications, amendments, and sponsor reports to ensure timely and compliant deliverables.
• Assists with preparing research result summaries, collaborates with stakeholders on dissemination materials, and tracks dissemination progress.
• Cross-trains with other research personnel to ensure adequate coverage across study functions and provides backup support for operational needs, including data collection and participant communication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficiency with REDCAP.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint; Zoom.
• Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of human subjects research requirements.
• High attention to detail and consistency demonstrated by previous work or academic experience.
• Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
• Ability to identify and resolve operational challenges.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in dynamic operational environments.
• Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
• Knowledge of behavioral health or implementation-science concepts.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, social work, physiology, or a related area of assignment, and up to one (1) year of relevant work experience may be required OR
• High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency and four years of research experience appropriate to the area of assignment OR
• Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with human subjects, administering surveys or interviews.
