Job description

TRAC-WORK, INC.

SUPERINTENDENT – JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:   Supervise mobile crews to construct, alter, repair, maintain, and demolish railroad tracks, associated structures and components.  May work on high production, high stress job sites dependent on customer needs.  Must be able to communicate effectively with subordinates, customers, and suppliers.  Receives work assignments directly from the Area Manager. 

Essential Functions:

1.                  Train subordinates in their work tasks.

2.                  Schedule jobs and crews daily to ensure customer satisfaction.

3.                  Assist Foremen in planning jobs.

4.                  Visit job sites to evaluate progress and observe crew productivity.

5.                  Recognize, avoid and report potential hazards.  Ensure corrective follow up measures to abate any identified hazards.

6.                  Communicate and enforce all safety rules and regulations.

7.                  Record either verbally or in writing all disciplinary actions and report them to the Area Manager.

8.                  Work alongside the Area Manager in scheduling jobs and materials.

9.                  Conduct and organize safety meetings (S.T.E.P.S.) and JSA Reviews.

10.              Wear all required personal protective equipment and ensure compliance of subordinates.

11.              Conduct and record at least 12 safety inspections per month including, but not limited to: Truck inspections, job site audits, tool inspections, and truck inspections.

12.              Oversee and verify crew time sheets, JSA’s and truck inspections to ensure accuracy.

13.              Coordinate delivery of equipment and materials to job sites.

14.              Be responsible as the senior Safety coordinator for the office.

15.              Conduct track inspections and submit detailed reports of findings to the Area Manager.

16.              Be responsible for maintaining daily communication with the Foreman on progress and needs for each job.

Required Abilities:

1.                  Have competent verbal and written communication skills.

2.                  Understand and respond to audible and visual signals and warnings.

3.                  Demonstrate understanding of track specifications and guidelines.

4.                  Ensure proper use and maintenance of all track tools and small equipment (rail saws, rail drills, electric generator, hand tampers, air compressor and associated pneumatic tools).

5.                  Ensure proper maintenance and repairs on all crew trucks and your own truck.

Other Requirements:

1.                  Possess a valid driver’s license and have no more than three (3) moving violations in the most recent three (3) years.

2.                  Have or obtain track inspector certification from an official source (if needed).

3.                  Be able to pass Pre-Employment and random drug test.

4.                  Must be 18 years of age or older.

5.                  Willing and able to travel to various job sites, including those that require overnight stays and those that require short notice mobilization.

6.                  Able to respond to emergencies after hours, weekends or holidays.

7.                  Responsibly handle expense monies when conducting company business.

8.                  Capable of working in inclement weather and/or conditions.

9.                  Must have previous experience in railroad construction and maintenance.

Preferred, But Not Required

1.                  High School diploma or equivalent.
