REPORTS TO: Vice President
 Seeking a Purchasing Agent for local business. The Purchasing Agent will work closely with the Vice President and will be responsible for company purchases, obtaining price quotes, and lead times for vendors on required standard and custom products. The Purchasing Agent will also ensure that inventory of raw materials to build products flows appropriately to complete customer projects.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
·         Purchase raw goods, materials, supplies, and services in accordance with established policies and procedures.
·         Manage and negotiate with suppliers to ensure the best pricing and terms for purchased materials and services.
·         Communicate verbally & in writing with suppliers to obtain competitive quotes.
·         Communicate with other department managers to ensure that all purchasing activities are integrated into the company’s operations.
·         Collaborate with the manufacturing team to determine parts needed.
·         Source new suppliers with a focus on quality and cost savings. Conduct annual cost analysis and price shop.
·         Drive cost-savings by sourcing low-cost alternative products.
·         Build and maintain positive, long-term vendor relationships.
·         Maintain accurate up-to-date paper and digital records of purchases, including pricing, delivery dates, and supplier information.
·         Ensure electronic and manual filing system is maintained and contains all required information.
·         Create purchase orders in QuickBooks and submit them to vendors.
·         Create Material Receiving Form and give it to Runners to pick up or post in shop for anticipated deliveries.
·         Review packing slips and invoices with shop and Accounts Payable to confirm quantity, product and pricing are correct.
·         Thorough follow up with vendors on any discrepancies until successful resolution.
·         Proactively maintain inventory of standard raw materials establishing par value for each item.
·         Create, maintain & update as needed any machine maintenance manuals.
·         Assist Vice President in forecasting for extrusion and wood orders.
·         Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
·         MUST have extensive experience in purchasing steel, aluminum, plywood 
 & hardware

·         Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) as well as interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, vendors, and coworkers.
·         Strong research and analytical skills
·         Ability to “think outside the box” and propose new ideas and solutions
·         Create and maintain up to date machine maintenance logs and manuals.
·         Understanding of machinery or mechanical components a plus
·         Proficient in Quick Books & Microsoft Office Suite
·         Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with vendors.
·         Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
·         Manage time and projects to meet time sensitive deadlines.
·         Report obstacles timely to facilitate resolution.
·         Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously.
·         Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and priorities.
·         Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: 

·         High School diploma or equivalent, required
·         Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, procurement, or related field preferred
·         2-4 years experience as a metals & hardware purchasing agent, or in a similar position.
·         2-4 years experience in a manufacturing environment purchasing function
·         1-3 years experience using QuickBooks and Microsoft Office.
 
WORK SCHEDULE
·         Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm
WORK LOCATION:

·         On site, one location
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time; use hands, talk, hear and remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to verbally communicate effectively with staff and customers. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The employee must have the ability to always stay alert and attentive and operate a computer, phone and essential equipment as required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
