Job description

R.J. Corman Railroad Company is seeking a dedicated and experienced Civil Project Supervisor to lead field operations for civil construction and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will oversee project execution from start to finish, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with company and customer expectations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with experience managing construction crews, coordinating resources, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality in a fast-paced field environment.
What You'll Do
As a Civil Project Supervisor, you will:
  • Supervise daily civil construction activities and field personnel.
  • Coordinate project schedules, workforce requirements, equipment, and material resources.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify quality standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage subcontractors and vendors to support efficient project execution.
  • Identify and resolve field issues, delays, and operational challenges.
  • Review project drawings, permits, contracts, and construction documentation.
  • Track project costs and assist with budget management.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including daily reports, safety documentation, and production updates.
  • Communicate project status, milestones, risks, and challenges to management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Participate in project meetings, client discussions, and site walkthroughs.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists and final documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in civil construction, utility construction, infrastructure projects, telecommunications construction, or a related industry.
  • Experience leading field crews and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, project scheduling, and workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with data entry and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to perform basic business math and maintain project documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with operations planning and scheduling activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive employee relations.
  • Experience training employees on construction equipment operation.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work on active construction and project sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to safely work around heavy equipment, vehicles, construction materials, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to remain alert, make decisions, and direct crews in high-pressure situations.
  • Availability to work varying schedules, including nights and weekends as project needs require.
Work Environment
  • Primarily works outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
  • Regular exposure to challenging terrain, construction sites, equipment, debris, mud, and other environmental conditions.
