Job description

Job Summary

Utah Landscape Construction Company is seeking a Construction Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager to support commercial landscape construction projects. This position is focused on landscape construction only and does not include landscape maintenance work.

The ideal candidate is organized, highly responsive, detail-oriented, and able to assist with several active projects at the same time. This position requires strong communication, follow-through, documentation, and coordination with project managers, superintendents, general contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, and project owners.

A critical requirement of this position is being hyper-responsive to all incoming communication, including emails, phone calls, text messages, submittal requests, RFIs, schedule updates, change order items, and project coordination needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager with daily coordination of commercial landscape construction projects.
  • Track and respond to project communication in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain strong responsiveness to emails, calls, texts, RFIs, submittals, schedule requests, and contractor correspondence.
  • Help manage several projects at the same time while keeping priorities organized.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, RFIs, submittals, and project documents.
  • Assist with preparation, tracking, and follow-up of submittals, product data, samples, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, owners, architects, inspectors, suppliers, subcontractors, and field crews.
  • Assist with scheduling material deliveries, subcontractor work, equipment needs, and project activities.
  • Help track project costs, quantities, change order items, field changes, and pending issues.
  • Support procurement of plant material, irrigation materials, site furnishings, soil products, stone, and other landscape construction materials.
  • Attend project meetings as needed and assist with meeting notes, follow-up items, and project documentation.
  • Assist with closeout documents, warranty information, as-builts, maintenance information, and final project documentation.
  • Communicate clearly with field supervisors regarding project requirements, schedule changes, material needs, and construction details.
  • Follow up aggressively on open items until resolved.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of construction, project coordination, project engineering, assistant project management, estimating support, or related experience.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, details, and project documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work with several active projects at one time.
  • Must be highly responsive, dependable, and professional with communication.
  • Proficient with email, PDF documents, spreadsheets, and basic computer systems.
  • Ability to work with suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, owners, and field personnel.
  • Must be able to follow through on assigned tasks without repeated reminders.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Preferred Experiencе

  • Commercial landscape construction experience.
  • Irrigation systems and irrigation material coordination.
  • Plant material procurement and supplier coordination.
  • Site furnishings, hardscape, stone, soils, and construction material coordination.
  • Submittals, RFIs, change order tracking, and project documentation.
  • Construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar platforms.
  • Public work or commercial construction projects.
  • Working with general contractors and project owners.

The right person for this role is professional, organized, and willing to take ownership of follow-up. This position requires someone who understands that construction moves quickly and that delayed responses create problems for the entire project team.

The ideal candidate will be extremely responsive, detail-oriented, organized, professional under pressure, comfortable handling several projects at once, clear in written and verbal communication, able to follow up until an item is completed, willing to learn commercial landscape construction, reliable, and accountable.

Work Environment

This position may include both office and field-related work. The employee may be required to visit construction sites, attend meetings, coordinate with field staff, and review project conditions. Work may involve active commercial construction sites and changing project priorities.

Compensation

Salary range is $65,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, construction knowledge, responsiveness, and ability to manage multiple active project responsibilities.

Candidates with commercial landscape construction experience, irrigation knowledge, submittal/RFI experience, change order tracking, and strong project communication skills may qualify toward the higher end of the range.
