Scope of Work
Join our dynamic team at the Engineering Services Department as a Graduate Engineer and make a meaningful impact on our City's infrastructure! Under the general direction of the City Engineer, or their designated representative, you will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and implementation of various capital improvement projects throughout the City of Midland. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, including road and drainage infrastructure, water and wastewater systems, parks and recreational facilities, and more.
Essential Job Duties
  • Support the design of projects within the Engineering Services Department, ensuring adherence to standards, project schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction drawings, cost estimates, specifications, bid documents, and construction schedules.
  • Coordinate with consultants, regulatory agencies, and contractors through planning, design, and construction phases to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and permitting requirements.
  • Stay abreast of emerging industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements to continuously improve engineering process and methodologies.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
Requires the ability to drive, site, stand, kneel, twist, climb, and lift moderate weight (up to 50 pounds). Will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while inspecting project sites. Protective clothing or equipment on job sites is required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, with certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Texas or the ability to obtain one within twelve (12) months.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Civil3D, Adobe and/or Bluebeam.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and standards, including but not limited to transportation, water resources, utilities, and infrastructure design.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
