Position Overview
Our field engineers perform and verify layout of construction projects including inspecting construction activities for quality and compliance; establishing building control vertically and horizontally, establishing and verifying elevations, verifying correct installations for embeds, anchor bolts etc. in concrete structures, and providing grades for formwork, concrete, and rebar placement. This position supervises the work of others including construction workers and trade contractor employees.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Inspect construction activities in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents.
  • Know, understand and consistently enforce Vaughn's safety program and OSHA rules.
  • Provide technical assistance, e.g. interpretation of drawings, recommended construction methods and equipment, etc. as required.
  • Review plans, specifications, general notes and shop/working drawings for assigned activities prior to performing assigned duties.
  • Establish building control vertical and horizontal.
  • Set-up and operate robotic total station, back sights and operate prism pole and data collector for precise layouts.
  • Establish and verify elevations.
  • Verify correct installation of embeds, anchor bolts etc. in concrete structure.
  • Perform and document as-built conditions as needed for embeds, concrete, other structural components and existing conditions.
  • Run level loops and provide grades for formwork, concrete and rebar placement.
  • Communicate positively among employees and work as a team with project management, QA/QC and safety co-workers.
  • Help sustain a positive company image.
  • Assist in effectively training crew members to adhere to policies/procedures and motivating them to uphold core values by leading through example.
  • Develop professional relationship with design team to ensure project is delivered successfully.
  • Ensure all on-site personnel comply with the project procedures.
  • Exhibit organization skills to ensure loose ends are cleaned up and complete projects timely.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of time sheets, unit reporting, daily construction reports and labor projections.
  • Review and works within company policies and procedures.
  • Assist project management team in implementation of an effective job site communications plan. Communicate often and clearly with the team.
  • Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.

Education and Training
  • Four-year degree in construction, engineering or related field or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Experience with self-performing work in excavation, concrete, and finish carpentry preferred.

  • Ability to handle multiple personnel and technical issues simultaneously on an ongoing basis
