Title: Assistant Project Engineer
Location: Hybrid/White Plains, NY
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Summary:
The Assistant Project Engineer will support the New York Power Authority (NYPA) Generation Projects team by assisting Project Engineers with project coordination, financial tracking, contract administration, scheduling, and project governance across all project phases (Initiation, Scoping, Design, Construction, and Closeout). The role requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills to ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget, and compliant with engineering, environmental, and safety requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Support Project Engineers throughout the project lifecycle, including initiation, design, construction, and closeout.
- Prepare project plans, risk registers, scopes of work, contractor/consultant award memos, purchase requisitions, and other project governance documents.
- Develop purchase requisitions, contract documents, and documentation for new contracts and change orders.
- Attend project status meetings and maintain accurate project schedules, costs, and progress updates.
- Forecast project budgets and resource requirements while coordinating with the Project Controls team.
- Track project financials, including monthly invoices, accruals, and budget verification.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholder reviews of submittals and RFIs using Procore or similar project management software.
- Maintain comment logs and ensure timely resolution of review comments and action items.
- Develop and manage project action item lists, following up with stakeholders to ensure completion.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, regulatory, and construction requirements throughout project execution.
- Support stakeholder coordination, technical document reviews, specifications, engineering drawings, forecasting, variance reporting, schedule management, and contract administration.
- Prepare high-quality project reports, financial summaries, and documentation using Microsoft Office tools.
Experience:
- Required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in engineering, construction management, project administration, or a related field.
- Experience supporting engineering or construction projects through planning, execution, and closeout.
- Strong project coordination, scheduling, budgeting, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word (cross-referencing, indexing, advanced formatting).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, charts, and data analysis.
- Ability to understand and communicate technical engineering information effectively.
- Experience managing project schedules, financial tracking, and stakeholder coordination.
Preferred
- Experience with Procore or similar project/construction management software.
- Working knowledge of SAP and purchase order systems.
- Experience using Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 for project scheduling.
- Knowledge of project forecasting, variance reporting, contract administration, and change order management.
- EIT (Engineer in Training) and/or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) certification, or willingness to obtain one.
