Our internship program provides undergraduate students opportunities to learn about different building types and delivery methods while gaining on-the-job experience in the various markets we build in.

The Christman Company is looking for Assistant Project Engineer Interns for the upcoming Summer Internship Program in our Grand Rapids, Michigan region!

What You Will Do:

As an Assistant Project Engineer Intern, primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but not limited to:

  • Provides administrative and technical support to the project team.

  • Assists with Request for Information (RFI), document control and management, creation and tracking of submittals, cost tracking, and schedule updated.

  • Assist in summarizing important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.

  • Reads through and understands specification books to ensure compliance and project quality.

  • Assist the Project Manager with identifying necessary inspections, create project-specific inspection log according to Christman standards, establish relationships with inspectors, schedule inspections, and ensure readiness for inspection.

  • Assist in updating contract drawings to reflect all approved changes and ensure trade contractor document updates.

  • Assist Superintendents with daily reports and manage all progress and quality photos.

  • Model safety awareness and planning at all times while observing safety practices and report any concerns to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.

  • Supports the logistics process for all safety initiatives listed in the site-specific safety plan.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:

  • Active, full-time Sophomore-Senior level student pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA


Preferred experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:

  • Previous work or internship experience in the commercial construction industry.

  • Shows participation and/or leadership roles in student organizations or extracurricular club activities.
