Job description

North Georgia Civil Inc./NGC General Contractors Commercial Construction Assistant Project Manager

Location: Danielsville, GA (Athens-area office). This is primarily an office-based role with travel throughout the United States based on assigned projects. Travel may include project kickoffs, site visits, inspections, turnovers, and occasional multi-day stays.

Build the Project. Build Your Career.

North Georgia Civil Inc., also known as NGC General Contractors, is a rapidly growing commercial and civil contractor headquartered in Danielsville, GA. The company delivers commercial, government, civil, telecom, utility, and infrastructure-related construction projects across the United States. NGC has built its reputation on quality, accountability, accurate communication, and a strong commitment to project success.

NGC is seeking a Commercial Construction Assistant Project Manager to support Project Managers in delivering commercial, federal, and occupied-facility construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This role will coordinate documentation, procurement, schedules, subcontractors, cost tracking, and field communication while gradually taking ownership of defined project responsibilities. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, tech-savvy, detail-oriented, and ready to grow into a full Project Manager role.

Travel expectation: Travel is required as assigned for project kickoff, mobilization, site visits, inspections, turnover, and issue resolution. Frequency varies by project workload and may include occasional multi-day stays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers with project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and day-to-day project documentation.
  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, permits, licenses, badging requirements, and owner requirements before construction begins.
  • Set up and maintain organized project files, logs, workflows, submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, punch lists, and closeout tracking in Autodesk Construction Cloud, Smartsheet, and Google Workspace.
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor coordination, including scope confirmation, quote collection, contract exhibits, purchase orders, and follow-up.
  • Track long-lead materials, procurement dates, deliveries, and outstanding decisions that may affect the project schedule.
  • Review superintendent daily reports and photos, maintain look-ahead information, and flag schedule conflicts or field issues early.
  • Support project financial management in Autodesk Construction Cloud Cost Management, including commitments, invoice coding, budget updates, cost-to-complete tracking, and margin protection.
  • Assist with pricing and processing potential change orders, subcontractor change requests, and owner change-order documentation.
  • Prepare draft monthly client pay applications in AIA G702/G703 format and maintain billing backup.
  • Help manage federal contract requirements, including certified payroll, Davis-Bacon documentation, site access, and compliance records when applicable.
  • Prepare weekly project reports and communicate project status, upcoming needs, risks, and action items clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Travel to project sites for kickoff, mobilization, inspections, turnovers, punch-list completion, and issue resolution as directed.
  • Support project closeout by collecting warranties, as-builts, O&M manuals, training records, final inspections, and turnover documents.
  • Identify problems early, follow through until resolution, and progressively take ownership of smaller projects or defined workstreams.
Qualifications
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in commercial construction, project coordination, assistant project management, estimating, field supervision, or a related role preferred.
  • Commercial construction experience is preferred; federal/government, occupied-facility remodel, or national-account experience is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, logs, and follow-up items at the same time.
  • Basic understanding of construction sequencing, procurement, scheduling, cost control, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Smartsheet, and Google Workspace preferred.
  • Comfortable adopting new technology and AI-assisted tools used across project management and operations.
  • Professional, dependable, solution-focused, and willing to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the United States based on assigned project needs; valid driver's license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Pay and Benefits
  • Full-time W2 employment.
  • Salary: $55,000 - $75,000 per year, based on experience.
  • Weekly pay cycle with performance-based bonus eligibility; project completion incentives may apply.
  • 3% IRA match after 3 months.
  • Two weeks of paid vacation per year.
  • Paid holidays include: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • Company-provided laptop and dual monitors.
  • Professional development opportunities, including construction software, OSHA, safety, and project management training.
  • Opportunity to work on commercial and federal projects across multiple states with a clear growth path toward a Project Manager role.
Why North Georgia Civil?

At NGC, you will join a team that values accountability, ownership, communication, and people who follow through. This is not a heavily corporate environment; it is a growing company where an Assistant Project Manager can work directly with experienced leaders, gain exposure to projects across the country, and make a visible impact. Strong performers will have the opportunity to expand their responsibilities and develop into independent Project Managers as the commercial construction team continues to grow.

North Georgia Civil Inc. encourages applications from qualified candidates of all backgrounds and experiences.
