Job description

Job Summary: The Brown Center Adult Day Program is dedicated to supporting people living with dementia and their families. The position of the Program Assistant is to assist in initiating and facilitating a wide variety of recreational and educational activities for the program participants.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • With input from professional staff, lead activity groups.
  • Encourage program participant’s participation in programs and activities.
  • Escort program participants on activities away from the property as assigned.
  • Conduct various activities at the direction of the Program Coordinator.
  • Assist participants with personal care, including toileting, hygiene, and grooming when applicable. Provide assistance in transferring individuals with physical impairments.
  • Assist with cleaning program areas as needed to avoid risk to participants or to enhance program operation.
  • Maintain general observation of participants and share appropriate information with staff.
  • Attend all required training, in-services and staff meetings. This is to include the successful completion of dementia training within the first 90 days.
  • Strive to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Maintain positive and professional demeanor toward program participants, visitors, family members and co-workers.
  • Assist with and/or administer medications to participants, under the supervision of the agency nurse.
  • Prepare food for participants’ breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.
  • Other duties as assigned
