Job description

Assistant Professor in American Government and Urban Politics
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor in American Government and Urban Politics at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
The Department of Political Science at Wayne State University has a full-time (9-month) tenure-track opening at the level of Assistant Professor in American Government and Urban Politics, to begin on or about August 18, 2027.
We seek candidates whose scholarship investigates contemporary issues in American and urban politics. A successful candidate will conduct research and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in American government and urban politics. Specifically, applicants will be required to teach courses in American Politics, Urban Politics (including Detroit politics), and African American Politics or Race, Class, and Politics. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can teach courses with community engagement in the Detroit metropolitan area. The standard teaching load is 2:2 (fall/winter semesters).

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in political science, public administration, or a related field by the time of the appointment.
