Job description

ONE-YEAR VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN HISTORY.  The Department of History at The University of Memphis invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Ancient Mediterranean History, a non-tenure track position with a term of one academic year (2026-2027) beginning August 17, 2026 through May 15, 2027

Candidates must submit their application through The University of Memphis website. Candidates should have ready to upload:

  • Sample syllabi for an undergraduate upper-division course 
  • Academic transcript
  • Full names and contact information (addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses) for two professional references

Initial review of applications will begin on Friday, July 15, 2026, and may continue until the position is filled.

PhD is required at time of appointment. 

The teaching load is three courses per semester. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate World History surveys as well as upper-division undergraduate courses in Greek and Roman history in both the classroom and online formats. No service is required during the term of the appointment.
