Essential Function
Directly responsible to the Department Chairperson or appropriate administrator
Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in English.
Experience: Previous teaching experience in higher education, preferably at a community college.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of Blackboard or other LMS is desired.
Responsibilities
1. Instruct students in the facts, skills, and appreciations pertaining to the assigned courses.
2. Consider the general and special needs of the students, assists them in meeting their problems, and when necessary, seeks additional help from other College services.
3. Inform students of educational and occupational opportunities.
4. Observe the schedule as approved by the department chairperson and appropriate
Administrator.
5. Cooperate with the department chairperson department members,
and the appropriate Administrators in the development of the curriculum, in the preparation and update of course syllabi, course outlines, and the selection of textbooks.
6. Recommend course resources library books and other instructional materials.
7. Assist in the organization and meetings of advisory committees where applicable.
8. Consult with department chairperson on matters pertaining to departmental problems; observes proper channels of communications.
9. When needed, maintain an inventory of assigned equipment and supplies.
10. Submit midterm and final grade reports, deficiency notices, attendance records, and any other reports pertaining to the assigned course within the required timeframes. Cooperate with the department Chairperson and the department members to provide artifacts of student learning outcomes for the assessment of course, program and general education outcomes. Upon receipt of aggregate data of assessment results back, they determine if and what curricular changes are needed.
11. Participate in the formation and recommendation of policies and regulations and assists in enforcing the regulations. Informs Department Chairperson in writing of any pending problem that might have a detrimental effect on the College.
12. Participate in faculty and professional organizations.
13. Attend scheduled monthly departmental/program meetings when there is no conflict with College responsibilities.
14. Distributes to all students each term, a course syllabus which follows Board Policy 6080.
