Assistant Kiln Operator Summary
Baillie Lumber in Titusville, PA is hiring for an Assistant Kiln Operator. This position is a full time opportunity working for a world class hardwood lumber manufacturer. The main responsibility of this role is to facilitate the drying of lumber in a kiln, load & unload kilns, and assist the head kiln operator with data entry, sampling, maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
Assistant Kiln Operator Responsibilities:
  • Assist in controls of dry kilns to dry lumber to specified moisture content: Measures moisture content of lumber preparatory to drying, using moisture meter, or cuts, weighs, and places lumber samples in curing oven and reweighs samples periodically as they are drying to determine rate and percentage of moisture reduction
  • Determines drying cycle and schedule, considering factors such as species, thickness, and quantity of lumber to be dried, initial moisture content of lumber, or moisture reduction rate of lumber samples.
  • Weighs lumber samples daily during drying process and readjusts temperature and humidity controls to regulate moisture reduction rate and avoid damage to lumber.
  • Monitors quality of drying utilizing kiln samples and adjusts drying rates to ensure lumber meets quality standards
  • Operate forklift to load/unload dry kilns
