JOB DESCRIPTION
Oak Park School District is thrilled to announce the creation of the new position of Elementary School Assistant Principal. The position was created in response to the growing number of students enrolled at the elementary grade level. The Elementary Assistant Principal reports to the building Principal and works collaboratively with the elementary school administration team, teaching staff, ancillary staff, and central office leaders to provide students with an optimal learning environment that is rich in diversity, opportunities,
and tradition. The Assistant Principal provides support and nurtures a caseload students grades K-5, as it relates to academics, attendance, discipline, and social emotional well-being. As an instructional leader, they are responsible for supporting the district and building goals, mission, and vision. The Oak Park School District is looking for an Assistant Principal who is a team player and intrinsically motivated; who has a deep desire to grow professionally; who believes children deserve to learn in an environment that is the least restrictive with the highest level of safety and cultural competence; who is committed to providing children with boundless opportunities; and who understands that initiative, rigor, and grit are essential to great
educational leadership as an Assistant Principal in the 21st Century.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience with substantial experience in a variety of teacher leadership roles
  • Master's Degree in School Administration, Educational Leadership or significant course work in school leadership
  • Valid Michigan Administration Certificate or eligibility to enroll in a certified program within six (6) months and complete the certification within three (3) years of hire date

Preferred Experience
  • Leadership experience working as vital team member in a leadership role
  • A minimum of five years working at the elementary school level
  • Demonstrated ability to provide instructional leadership for staff and students
  • Experience leading in an urban setting with a diverse student and parent population
  • Creative and innovative experience with building a master schedule that affords a wide variety of academic opportunities for the middle school student while preparing for high school
  • Knowledgeable about Professional Learning Communities, alternative instructional assessment strategies,instructional technology, learning pedagogies, MiStar, and the organizational restructuring which they may imply
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, the ability problems-solve and multi-task efficiently, able to takeinitiative, and prioritize the completion of work in a timely manner
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
  • Instrumental in creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment for all student and staff through unwavering teamwork using consistent and transparent procedures
  • Shared responsibility for driving best instructional practices and evaluating all staff in compliance with the law, using the 5D+ evaluation tool
  • Serves as an effective instructional leader who communicates the philosophy, goals, and objectives of an elementary school program, aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum, to all stakeholders with a high level of integrity and fidelity
  • Plans, implements, communicates and oversees registration, orientation and Curriculum Night, and Parent/Teacher conferences
  • Responsible for implementing State and National Assessments (iReady, M-STEP, etc.)
  • Provides administrative support and engages in best practices for populations and programs that include, but are not limited to general education, Title I, Students with Individualized Education Plans (IDPs), MultiTiered Support Systems (MTSS), 504 Plans and English Language Learners (ELL)
  • Ensures that all Board Policies and administrative guidelines are effectively implemented in the classroom and at the building level
  • Oversees school-wide lunch procedures, schedule, lunch visibility schedule and procedures related to food service
  • Shares the responsibility for student management including discipline and attendance; works directly with teachers in monitoring student behavior to maintain a healthy building climate
  • Provides leadership and guidance with Professional Learning Communities, alternative instructional assessment strategies, instructional technology, learning pedagogies, MiStar, and the organizational restructuring which they may imply
  • Oversee all student activities which include but are not limited to athletics, assemblies, and school event coordination, and school clubs
  • Administrator in charge of guest teachers, school safety drills, textbook distribution, and communicating the staff and school calendars
  • Lead role in making recommendations to Human Resources for hiring elementary staff and providing a comprehensive onboarding process at the building level
  • Serves as the liaison for Chartwells food service, First Student transportation, KALPA professional development, and building technology
  • Keeps abreast of educational developments by engaging with professional associations, attending conferences and workshops, and by reading and discussing issues with colleagues
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building Principal

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Leads and delivers an elementary school program that meets the educational needs of each student
  • Adheres to all State and Federal compliance laws as it relates to graduation requirements, fiscal responsibilities, and school health and safety
  • Communicates with colleagues and school community members in a manner which is consistent with district and school expectations
  • Assists in planning, documenting, and managing materials and resources that is consistent with district
    expectations
  • Provides employee supervision, which ensures safety (both physically and emotionally), and high expectations for productivity and integrity
  • Demonstrates management and completion of multiple projects building and district-wide in a timely manner
  • Maintains a physical and emotional environment that is well-organized and focused on the district's mission, vision, and goals
