Title: Special Education Instructional Assistant
Position Type: Full-time, Days
Location: Fairfax, Virginia

What the Instructional Assistant does:
The Instructional Assistant coordinates with and assists Special Education Teacher in providing an appropriate program for each student. Additionally, they coordinate with and assist the teacher in the following:
  • Classroom organization
  • Classroom behavioral management
  • Preparing educational materials and tutoring
  • Assists in teaching classes, under teacher's supervision.
  • Functions as a substitute teacher in their classroom, as necessary and assigned, on a time-limited basis.
  • Works one-on-one with students as directed by administration.
  • Maintains students' weekly point sheets electronically.
  • Maintains logs of all student behaviors that require a classroom removal.
  • Completes action reports or serious incident reports within 24 hours of an incident or by the end of the day of the incident depending on specific deadlines.
  • Completes annual paraprofessional ASD and related disability trainings.

What the Instructional Assistant brings to the team:
  • Bachelor's Degree in fields such as Education or related field, preferred.
  • Experience in special needs school environment, preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a learning/school environment
