General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Division Dean and Associate Dean and the Program Director, the Electrical & Electromechanical Technology Instructor plays a key role in shaping the next generation of skilled electricians and automation professionals. This position provides instruction at the Milford Campus, delivering hands-on learning in classroom, lab, and online environments.
The instructor is responsible for providing regular instruction, developing and updating courses taught in classroom, lab, online, and distance-learning environments, and may also teach in other locations, including the Prison Education Program (PEP).
Teaching assignments include, but are not limited to, National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements for residential and commercial applications; programming and installation of programmable logic controllers (PLCs); industrial communications and electronics; robotics and integrated automation; and installation and maintenance of electric motors and motor starters.
Beyond day-to-day instruction, this position will help grow and evolve the program by developing and updating curriculum, maintaining modern lab spaces and equipment, and implementing innovative teaching strategies for both high school and college students. Serving as a mentor and advisor to students, tracking their progress, and collaborating closely with the program team and SCC campus teams to ensure student success. This is a full-time temporary position with an expected end date of December 31st, 2026, with the possibility of extension through May 2027.

- Deliver hands-on, high-impact instruction to a diverse group of students preparing for careers in electrical and automation fields.
- Teach foundational and advanced electrical concepts, including residential and commercial wiring, industrial controls, and automation systems.
- Bring modern industry into the classroom with PLC programming, robotics, integrated automation, CAD concepts, and electrical systems integration.
- Instill a safety-first mindset, including National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, Hazard Communication, and Right-to-Know requirements.
- Design lessons, projects, and assessments that keep students engaged, challenged, and career-ready.
Create Dynamic Learning Experiences
- Build engaging presentations, demonstrations, and digital learning tools.
- Leverage multimedia, simulations, and real-world applications to connect theory to practice.
- Continuously refresh instructional materials to reflect current electrical and automation industry standards.

Marginal Functions
- Act as a technical advisor for the Electrical & Electromechanical Technology Program and collaborate with other college divisions to support high-quality instruction and ensure alignment with college policies and procedures.

Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Technical Expertise
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and hands-on experience in Electrical & Electromechanical Technology and automation systems.
- Apply industry practices, including electrical theory, National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, industrial controls, and system troubleshooting.
- Install, operate, and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial control systems, motors, motor starters, and automation components.

Minimum Qualifications
- AAS Degree in Electrical & Electromechanical Technology or a directly related field and 2 years of current work experience in relate field

- Journeyman Electrical License and an Electrical certificate
OR
- Ten years of relevant work experience and the ability to complete AAS within 2 years of hire
Desired Qualifications

Salary
$57,912 per year
Benefits
SCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA).
Schedule
This is a full-time regular position with an implied 40-hour work week, based on a 175-day work calendar. Teaching assignments for this position are scheduled and approved by the College between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday based on the instructional work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
