KILN OPERATOR

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Kiln Operator will be Responsible for safe productive control of plant operating equipment and processes including the Waelz Kiln and all associated process/environmental control systems. The operator will adjust plant process controls and interface with other cross functional teams to meet expected production and product quality rates in a safe and environmentally sound manner.  The operator will assist in the collection of data and reporting as directed.  The operator must also be able to interpret data and react correctly to keep the process under control.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Responsible to perform all duties and activities to create a safe, environmentally compliant workplace that produces high quality products in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Must perform all duties and activities in a manner that is aligned with our company values:  Honesty, Loyalty, Humility, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Will monitor process visually during physical inspections of Kiln equipment.
  • Will monitor processes through visual system controls on an on-going basis and  adjust control parameters for maximum product quality and efficiency.
  • Monitors the efficiency of the pellet feed process: hoppers and belts operation, as well as the weigh feeders.
  • Performs preventive maintenance duties as required for assigned equipment and systems to ensure long-lasting & effective performance.
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts and assist Maintenance when processes are down.
  • Assists with Identifying the causes of unexpected malfunctions of equipment.
  • Prepares reports documenting work performed (written and typed in SAP system).
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains areas, parts, tools, and supplies utilizing Lean/5S methods.
  • Will train and support new or transferred employees.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SILLS/ABILITIES:

 

  • Mechanically inclined with problem-solving skills.
  • Works well independently and with others.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and heavy industrial environment.
  • Must have willingness and ability to learn the techniques and processes of the Waelz Kiln and associated equipment.
  • Must have strong computer and typing skills.
  • Must complete and maintain any assigned company required training and certifications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

High School diploma: Some vocational, technical or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience, preferred. 1-2 years' experience operating process control equipment in heavy industrial environment preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work wearing appropriate safety PPE including respirators.
