Job description

About the Role

Responsible for providing perfusion services as defined by National standards and protocols. Works with the surgical team to deliver high‑quality patient care and maintain equipment and protocols.

What You Will Do
  • Perform advanced technical work in the setup, operation, and maintenance of the heart/lung machine and accessory equipment.
  • Maintain communication with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Ensure equipment function through routine cleaning and maintenance.
  • Facilitate quality patient care through evaluation of processes and opportunity for improvement.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining departmental policies and procedures.
  • Implement quality improvement processes to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Maintain accepted standard of care using available resources.
  • Perform non‑clinical/office duties such as participating in capital purchase decisions and coordinating patient charges.
  • Perform other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education & Formal Training Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Perfusion Experience Requirements
  • 1‑3 years of perfusion experience.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Heartsaver CPR AED – American Heart Association.
  • Certified Clinical Perfusionist – American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Clinical Perfusionist, Tennessee – Tennessee Committee for Clinical Perfusion.
  • Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support – American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of concepts and principles in perfusion services.
  • Ability to operate perfusion-related equipment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with medical, nursing staff, patients, and families.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects.
Supervision

No supervisory or lead responsibilities for this position.

Physical Demands
  • Climbing, pushing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, repetitive motion.
  • Medium work – exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently.
  • Requires good balance, coordination, and close visual acuity to perform tasks involving patients and equipment.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
