The Utility Lockbox Processor is responsible for processing utility customer payments received through lockbox services. This role ensures timely and accurate extraction, sorting, preparation, and data entry of payment documents while maintaining established production and quality standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open, sort, and prepare incoming utility payment mail for processing.
  • Extract checks, remittance stubs, and related payment documents from envelopes.
  • Verify payment information and identify exceptions requiring additional review.
  • Perform high-volume data entry of payment information into processing systems.
  • Balance payment batches and reconcile processed transactions.
  • Scan and image payment documents according to established procedures.
  • Research and resolve payment discrepancies, missing information, and processing exceptions.
  • Meet daily productivity, quality, and turnaround time requirements.
  • Adhere to all security, compliance, and confidentiality guidelines for handling customer financial information.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of processed transactions.
  • Support departmental goals and assist with other lockbox processing tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous data entry, payment processing, lockbox, banking, or operations experience preferred.
  • Strong keyboarding and numeric data entry skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining high levels of accuracy.

Preferred

  • Experience in lockbox processing, remittance processing, or financial operations.
  • Experience working in a production or mail-processing environment.
  • Knowledge of bank operations and payment processing procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for keyboarding and document handling.
  • Ability to lift and move mail trays, boxes, or materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume processing environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base hourly rate in the range of $18.75 - $25.00 per hour. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
