Overview

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing daily nursing operations across multispecialty outpatient clinics. This role integrates all Nurse Educator responsibilities, including onboarding, training, competency validation, and specialtyspecific education, while providing operational, regulatory, and quality support to the nursing leadership team. The ADON strengthens patient care quality, provider support, staff development, and regulatory readiness. the ADON influences performance and workflow through training, coaching, competency oversight, and operational partnership.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Georgia Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • At least three (3) years of clinical experience in an outpatient/ambulatory setting as well as clinical expertise.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of management responsibility in nursing administration.
  • Experience in clinical education or competency development.
  • Certification as a Nurse Educator (CNE).
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of work safety standards.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build morale and lead missiondriven teams.
Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in managing daily nursing workflow and clinic operations.
  • Support consistent workflows across all specialties and ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Lead or support daily huddles and communicate operational priorities.
  • Identify workflow issues and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Support provider readiness, rooming efficiency, and clinical coordination.

Regulatory & Quality Partnership

  • Support compliance readiness under the Director of Clinical Quality, ensuring nursing workflows align with Joint Commission, Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH), Operational Site Visit (OSV), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and state requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure accurate documentation, logs, and competency records.
  • Assist with audits, regulatory surveys, and corrective action planning.

Provider Support

  • Ensure providers receive consistent support from nursing and clinical support teams.
  • Address provider concerns related to workflow, staffing, or performance in partnership with the Director of Nursing.
  • Promote strong provider-nursing collaboration across all specialties.

Staff Development & Leadership Support

  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, coaching, counseling, corrective action discussions, and performance reviews as part of the leadership team.
  • Reinforce expectations for communication, moralebuilding, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Provide leadership support to Nurse Managers, Clinical Managers, and Clinical Supervisors.

CrossDepartment Collaboration

  • Partner with all departments to ensure seamless patient flow.
  • Participate in crossdepartment initiatives that improve patient experience and operational efficiency.
