Job description

The Assistant Network Administrator will assist with providing administration, maintenance and monitoring of Columbia State's network across four campuses. Responsibilities include supporting Cisco and Meraki based routers, switches, wireless, voice and network security systems; participate in network design and upgrade projects; troubleshooting and ensure smooth and secure operations. The Assistant Network Manager works closely with the Network Manager and IT staff to support the college's academic, administrative, voice, video, and data communications systems.
Essential Functions
  • Assist with the administration of Cisco networking components including implementation, upgrades, and monitoring. Components include, routers, switches, wireless controllers and access points, firewalls and other related network devices.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of connections to the Internet and other state and/or educational network.
  • Coordinate new network applications and assist with the implementation of those applications.
  • Assist with monitoring network performance and troubleshooting network issues.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of network related documentation including network diagrams, inventory and configuration details and procedures.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the campuses wireless network.
  • Configure and maintain VLAN's. routing protocols, VPN connections and coordinate telecom infrastructure.
  • Work with helpdesk coordinator to provide technical support to end-users
  • Work with the network manager and systems administrator to ensure students, faculty, and staff network servers are fully functional and secure
  • Assist with monitoring network performance and bandwidth utilization and find and resolve networking issues and outages.
  • Monitors campus cybersecurity controls and implement best practices, approved polices, and acceptable use guidelines.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Support development, oversight of programs and services that result in enrollment, progression, retention and graduation growth for the service area.

Supplemental Functions
  • Provide support for off-campus users with access to on-campus resources.
  • Help to create specifications and evaluates network solution providers.
  • Ensures that audit guidelines are being followed.
  • Support colleges cyber security efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience
  • Associates degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration or related field - AND - Minimum of 3 years experience in Network Management

OR
  • Technical Certificate in Computer Information Technology - AND - Minimum of 5 years experience in network management

In addition to the above requirements,
  • Industry Certification (such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network +) is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server OS, Linux, Internet protocols, Cisco Catalyst switching platforms, Cisco wireless controllers ,TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs and network configurations and maintenance. Network certifications such as CCNA would be a plus.
  • Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills to troubleshoot and configure old and new devices and applications.
  • Experience with cloud-based services such as Microsoft 365
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting and remote access tools such as Ping, Traceroute, nslookup, PuTTY, RDP, Wireshark, Auvik, cable testers, Wyebot,and packet capture tools
  • Experience with a drawing application such as Autocad or Visio

Working Conditions
  • Ability to work in enclosed environments such as wiring closets
  • Must possess the manual dexterity to operate tools (i.e. screwdrivers, cable management systems, crimping tools
  • Ability to reach high shelves and spaces low to the floor.
  • Ability to travel to remote campuses for network installations

Hiring Salary Range (Annual): $57,530- $69,030
