Position Summary

We are seeking a proactive Network Administrator, responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of REI's data and communication networks. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of internal infrastructure by configuring and managing routers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems, and monitoring tools. Includes on-call duties for responding to network emergencies and outages after normal working hours.

  • Design, configure, and maintain local and wide area networks, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure
  • Implement and manage firewall rules, NAT policies, and VPN configurations in accordance with REI's security standards
  • Monitor network performance, analyze traffic, and resolve issues to ensure uptime, efficiency, and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Layer 1-7 connectivity issues and performance bottlenecks
  • Assist with security incident response, including alert investigation, log analysis, and endpoint containment actions
  • Support network access control and authentication systems (802.1x, RADIUS, Active Directory integration)
  • Design and maintain VLAN structures and network segmentation strategies for performance and security
  • Maintain version control and configuration backups for critical network devices
  • Review, recommend, and implement network hardware and software upgrades
  • Follow IT change management processes for network modifications and deployment activities
  • Document network architecture, configurations, and changes using diagrams and procedural guides
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Advanced experience with Fortinet firewalls and Cisco switches/routers, including configuration and routing protocol management
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Windows Server environments; Linux experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing protocols, NAT, and the OSI model
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments
  • Strong documentation and diagramming skills
  • Relevant industry certifications such as Fortinet NSE4+ and Cisco CCNA/CCNP are preferred
  • Proven capability to manage priorities effectively while working both independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field, equivalent professional experience with progressively responsible roles in network administration
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in enterprise network administration, with a strong emphasis on firewall configuration, switching, and secure infrastructure management
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud networking integration and hybrid environments
  • Familiarity with packet capture tools, vulnerability assessment tools, and basic SQL scripting
  • Proven experience serving as a second-level escalation point for help desk or support tickets
  • A strong security-first mindset and commitment to secure network practices
