Location: Omaha, NE

FLSA Status: Exempt 

Top 3-5 Technical Skills –

  • Cisco Network experience (also has some Fortinet etc but primarily cisco). IF THEY DO NOT HAVE CISCO, THEY WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
  • Must understand network topology, ether channel, routing protocols etc.
  • Loves CCNA, CCNP OR CMNO
  • Managed service experience is a plus

Job Summary:

A Network Engineer Tier II is a core functionality position of our technology team. This position is the front line for the company’s technical support and directly interacts with users and works in a swift and timely manner to resolve their issues. Responsible for first line of support to troubleshoot network issues, implement changes, and ensure overall health and performance of our client networks.

Essential Functions:

  • Practice strong client service to help foster and enhance our relationships with our clients.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the technology infrastructure.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology and will continually research industry best practices.
  • Gain and maintain certifications in assigned area of expertise.
  • Work with the end user in all incident response activities, including identifying, isolating, and resolving network issues.
  • Coordinate with Technology management to resolve any or one of connectivity, desktop, and network hardware or software-based issues.
  • Mitigate future issues by monitoring and proactively resolving issues before they reach a critical state. This will involve responding to monitoring tickets.
  • Create and maintain basic to moderately complex systems for the benefit of internal and external clients.
  • Assist in the development of technical network design documents.
  • Provide initial unit testing of all network changes with the goal of providing a stable production environment.
  • Assist project team members in developing scope documents and project estimates.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with clients and business associates to build trust and create successful partnerships.
  • Develop and document knowledge of internal and external clients’ business and help provide options to resolve issues or proactively advance the organization forward.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner, track hours and communicate status to manager.
  • Work with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues and manage warranties.
  • Track all documentation and communications through Carrier Access IT, LC.’s internal database.
  • Assist in capacity planning to ensure the network can handle future growth and increased traffic.
  • Ensure network configurations comply with security policies and standards.
  • Regularly monitor network performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Will work in one of our three office locations.
  • Perform other tasks as needed and/or requested.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years’ experience supporting Cisco network environments.
  • Experience with deployment and support of CISCO and Meraki equipment.
  • CCNA/CCNP Certifications
  • Preferred: CMNA
  • Experience with Network Monitoring Tools, such as LogicMontor and N-Able.
  • Deep knowledge of network topologies and networking components including routers, switches, VPN Concentrators, and firewalls (hardware/software).
  • Solid understanding of network security architectures and protocols, including the configuration and management of firewalls, VPN technologies, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize these components in complex network environments.
  • Proficient in leveraging scripting languages such as Python, and PowerShell to automate network configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting tasks, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing manual intervention.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, Subnetting, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Experience troubleshooting basic cabling issues.
  • Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency across a broad range of networking technologies, including routing and switching, wireless infrastructure, network security, and monitoring tools, with the ability to integrate and support diverse systems in complex environments.
  • Infrastructure design/build/modification, business application management and LAN/WAN administration.
  • Experience working in ticketing systems; ConnectWise a plus.
