Job description

Transport and Facilities Engineer
The Transport and Facilities Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and operational readiness of network transport hubs and facility infrastructure in the Houston, TX market. This full-time, in-person position is responsible for installing, provisioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting transport equipment, dark fiber, DWDM systems, and related network elements across hub offices, data centers, collocation sites, and customer locations.
This position combines technical transport responsibilities with facility operations, including contractor coordination, facility maintenance, power systems and generator monitoring, building-related issues, alarms, and emergencies. The role works cross-functionally with Network Engineering, Sales Engineering, Service Delivery, Field Services, Provisioning, NOC, Voice Operations, IPENG, and Central Office Technicians to support new installations, resolve outages, and maintain service continuity.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 3 years of Telecommunications Facilities sites, Network Transport switching and Fiber installation experience.
  • 1 year of computer experience, including data entry and database manipulation.
  • Troubleshooting abilities on Dark Fiber and DWDM Transport
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and provisioning Transport and MUX equipment.
  • Experience with fiber connections and testing and accepting multi-level transport facilities.
  • Ability to analyze and clear customer troubles and network outages.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical work and determine when an electrical contractor is required.
  • Ability to interact with customers on new installations, disconnects, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interact with vendor personnel.
  • Ability to maintain and record proper inventory levels.
  • Ability to maintain logs, records, and databases as required.
  • Communicate clearly and ask questions for clarification.
  • Escalate risks to leadership.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Maintain and perform trouble and alarm isolation on Network Hub Switches and other network elements.
  • Inspect Office Batteries, Power Plants, and Emergency Generators.
  • Install, maintain, and provision Transport and MUX equipment in Network Transport Hub offices, collocation sites, Data Centers, and customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot Dark Fiber and DWDM Transport.
  • Interact with customers on new installations, disconnects, and troubleshooting.
  • Cable, connect, and install peripheral equipment or customer premises and Data Center equipment.
  • Analyze and clear customer troubles and network outages
  • Place physical wiring, fiber connections, and test and accept multi-level transport facilities.
  • Perform general maintenance on Network Transport Hub Equipment.
  • Interact with vendor personnel.
  • Coordinate with sales engineers, network engineers, and Service Delivery Installation Coordinators on the installation of cabinets, power, and hardware as needed for datacenter customers
  • Assist other departments with office requirements.
  • Act as the primary contact for building issues, emergencies, and repairs.
  • Monitor contractor performance and work with outside vendors and contractors to ensure work is completed in facilities according to specifications.
  • Assist with maintaining building security and work with the NOC to immediately respond to building emergencies and alarms on a 24/7 basis.
  • Assist Facilities management in preparing the annual maintenance budget.
  • Perform basic electrical work and determine when an electrical contractor is required.
  • Transport goods or equipment to various assigned sites.
  • Perform various other maintenance duties as assigned by management.
