Securing a job as an assistant motion graphics artist can be competitive, often requiring a strong portfolio, proficiency in tools like Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4D, and relevant internships or experience. Building a solid skill set and networking can improve chances, but entry-level positions may still be accessible with the right qualifications.

What is the difference between Assistant Motion Graphics vs Motion Graphics Designer?

AspectAssistant Motion GraphicsMotion Graphics Designer

Work EnvironmentSupportive team setting, assisting senior designersIndependent or team-based creative environment
Employer & Industry UsageAdvertising agencies, media companies, production studiosSame as Assistant Motion Graphics, often with more responsibility

Assistant Motion Graphics roles focus on supporting and learning, often requiring less experience and serving as a stepping stone. Motion Graphics Designers take on more complex projects, leading design work and making creative decisions. Both roles are common in media, advertising, and entertainment industries, but differ mainly in responsibility and experience level.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant Motion Graphics Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Motion Graphics Designer, you need a solid grasp of design principles, animation techniques, and proficiency with industry-standard software like Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with tools such as Cinema 4D and Photoshop, as well as understanding of video formats and rendering processes, is typically expected. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment are standout soft skills for this role. These skills ensure high-quality visual content, smooth project workflows, and successful communication of ideas in fast-paced production settings.

What are Assistant Motion Graphics artists?

Assistant Motion Graphics artists support senior motion graphics designers by preparing assets, creating simple animations, and helping with project organization. They often work with video editing software and animation tools like Adobe After Effects or Cinema 4D to help bring visual concepts to life. Their responsibilities may include rendering files, organizing project folders, and revising animations based on feedback. This entry-level role is ideal for those looking to gain experience in the motion graphics field and develop their technical and creative skills.

Will motion graphics be replaced by AI?

Motion graphics artists create visual content using design and animation skills, and AI tools can assist with tasks like automation and generating basic animations. However, the creative and conceptual aspects of motion graphics require human expertise, making full replacement unlikely in the near future. Professionals who adapt by integrating AI tools and enhancing their technical skills will remain valuable in the field.

Is motion graphics a good career?

Motion graphics is a viable career for those with skills in design, animation, and software such as Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4D. They may help with designing graphics, organizing assets, and using software like Adobe After Effects or Photoshop under the guidance of motion designers or art directors.

What are some common challenges faced by Assistant Motion Graphics professionals, and how can they overcome them?

Assistant Motion Graphics professionals often encounter tight deadlines, frequent revisions, and the need to balance multiple projects at once. Effective time management and clear communication with senior designers and project managers are essential to meet expectations and deliver quality work. Additionally, staying updated with the latest software tools and animation trends helps assistants adapt quickly and contribute creatively to the team. Seeking feedback and collaborating closely with colleagues can also support skill development and workflow efficiency.

Job description

Motion Designer

Are you passionate about AI and eager to work on groundbreaking projects? Do you want to be a major part of a rock-star team in a rapidly growing startup, collaborate with industry leaders, and make a real impact in the legal landscape? Do you want ownership in a startup building something people want with real paying users and significant traction? Here's your chance!

🏗️ About the role

24 months since we launched, we’re already adding 7 figures of ARR per month.

We’ve built a rockstar team of engineers, AI researchers, and patent attorneys.

We’re now looking for a super-talented, high-energy, and ambitious Motion Graphics Designer to play a key role in our company’s growth and product launches. You will lead our social media motion graphics promotions.

You will lead our social media and conference motion graphics promotions, while working closely with our design, GTM, and product teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop a user-centric motion design system that scales to all products within our platform.

  • Work closely with our design, GTM, and product teams to bring scripts to life.

  • Partner with our design team to animate assets that can be embedded into the product experience.

  • QA work to ensure designs and creative assets are polished, on brand, and ready for release.

  • Help us execute efficiently to ship products that deliver value and impact for our customers.

👋 Who you’ll work with

Sanj (Chief Research Officer and co-founder): Sanj did his MSci in Physics at the University of Cambridge and his PhD in AI at the Gatsby Unit, UCL. He won awards at top AI conferences, worked on the R&D team at Huawei, and received widespread attention for his contributions to open-source LLM GitHub projects. He joined Magic Carpet AI as employee #4, where he developed AI strategies for trading which deployed millions of capital before being acquired by Blockchain.com.

Chris (Chief Executive Officer and co-founder): Chris did his undergrad at Imperial College, masters at the University of Cambridge, and PhD at UCL, during which he published 10+ publications and won awards in top AI conferences and journals. He has worked in leading tech organisations, including Dyson, The Alan Turing Institute, and InstaDeep before its acquisition by BioNTech.

Angus (Chief Technology Officer and co-founder): Angus did an MEng in Computer Science at the University of Bristol where he won a cyber security scholarship at GCHQ before working at Qualcomm. He then joined a London-based hedge fund, Coremont (Brevan Howard). There, he led a small team to build a greenfield trade processing platform which scaled to millions of trades per day.

You’ll also work with the rest of our super talented team of AI researchers, software engineers, patent attorneys, and go-to-market experts.

🚀 Who you are

We are a young company of highly motivated, ambitious, and hard-working individuals building a billion-dollar business. Our fundamental motivation is to build a state-of-the-art AI product to assist humans in generating intellectual property and to have mass market adoption of our software.

To thrive in this environment, you’ll have the following characteristics: You’re motivated to move fast - you prioritise speed, are always itching to move faster, and want to close deals on the order of days, not weeks or months. You’re passionate about mass adoption of AI - we’re at the beginning of an exponential curve, and we want to take the latest AI technology and build it into a useful product as quickly as possible. You’re a driven individual with a strong work ethic - our team is committed to going the extra mile, even if it means working long nights and weekends to achieve our goals. You strive for excellence in every aspect of your work - you take ownership of your outcomes and overdeliver on your goals. You’re humble, eager to learn whatever it takes to help your team and customers succeed, and an optimist who thrives in a positive environment.
