Lawson Drayage is currently seeking an estimator with responsibility of performing job walks, estimating work and customer relations. We are seeking an ambitious, enthusiastic, team-player who is willing to learn how to estimate projects in a fast-paced environment. The candidate who we are searching for must be a must be a self-starter, self-directed, detailed, highly organized individual with a positive, can-do attitude. The Estimator will be responsible but not limited to estimating, scheduling, and budgeting, as required by each project. Customer satisfaction is top priority.


Essential Functions

  • Partner and train with senior estimator to learn estimating skills
  • Learn how to plan, bid, and oversee projects while following company policies and procedures and stay within time constraints.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-estimate meetings, analyze request for proposals and required contents of estimate to determine the scope of work, and prepare time, cost, and labor estimate for project.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures.
  • Interface with customer and perform job walks
  • Measure all access doors and identify "pinch" points that may need to be addressed prior to move
  • Understand the job scope process including site logistics, unforeseen and existing conditions, and other issues
  • Lead meetings with project team, subcontractors, and customers to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy.
  • Formulate job plan and generate quote to send to customer
  • Review total estimate to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
  • Communicate effectively through clear and concise means appropriate to the project's goals (verbal, written, and graphics).
  • Oversee bid activities, including change orders and revisions.
  • Dispatch work with proper rigging equipment
  • Review work orders in order to invoice customer.
  • Develop and maintain productive customer and subcontractor relationships
  • Perform regular site visits to on-going projects to support operations and enhance the customer communication and experience
  • Track awarded contracts as required - may include estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit; procuring materials on major work items.
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or vendor quotes, and evaluate them for scope and qualifications.
  • Input estimate data into appropriate software.
  • Keep project team well informed of changes within the organization.
  • Research and promote continuous improvement in developing more efficient estimating methods.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of estimating experience in millwright services, machinery moving an/or rigging
  • General knowledge of rigging trade, commercial, or industrial projectsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.)
  • Knowledge of estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, and sub-trade (preferred)
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret construction documents and plans (drawings, specifications, contracts/general conditions) at all levels of design
  • Must be highly articulate, organized, and have a clear and analytical approach to problem solving as well as strong decision-making abilities.
  • Must be able to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, and work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Must be punctual, dependable, and have excellent written, verbal and customer service skills

Physical Requirements

  • Majority of work is performed in an office environment, however frequent travel to potential job sites and client locations will be necessary
  • Must be able to read blueprints, schematics and other documents
  • Must be able to perform tasks requiring frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting in order to evaluate equipment and potential entry/exit points
