We currently have an exciting opportunity at our Pogo operation for an experienced Underground Mine Surveyor/Survey Technician on a 15 days on, 13 days off schedule.

What’s the role?
The Surveyor reports to the Senior Surveyor, and the primary role is to produce results that accurately define operations and can be used for planning and production support within the Mining Department.

The specifics:

  • Prepare underground 3D as-built surveys using total station equipment.
  • Establish and maintain survey wall stations.
  • Lay out survey control associated with face blasting.
  • Lay out survey control associated with long-hole slashing.
  • Update and maintain survey drawings using AutoCAD, Vulcan and Surpac.
  • Prepare end of month volume and footage reports using Vulcan.
  • Survey and calculate volumes for surface ore, waste, and aggregate stockpiles.
  • Survey assistance for the development of mine plans and designs.
  • Assist in the alignment of exploration drills for surface and underground.
  • Produce results that accurately define mine operations and can be used for planning and production support. Must accept work and technology upgrades in a gracious manner and complete survey projects in a timely and efficient manner.
  • May also be asked to assist with mine engineering projects, tasks and data collection. 
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Working knowledge of survey theory and instruments. 
  • Working knowledge of computers and programs to process and plot surveying data.
  • Valid Driver's license. 
  • Sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word and Excel required. 
  • Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company. 
  • Ability to pass a background check and post-offer physical. 

Desired Experience & Competencies

  • One year of surveying experience or technical school. 
  • Underground hard rock experience.
  • Competency with AutoCAD, Vulcan and Surpac.
  • Critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong planning and organizational skills. 

Working a 15 day on, 13 day off rotating schedule up to 11.50 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
