Summary
The Merchandising Assistant supports the merchandising team in planning, buying, and managing product assortments to maximize sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This entry-to-mid-level role serves as a key support position in retail, e-commerce, fashion, or consumer goods companies. It blends analytical work, vendor coordination, and creative input to ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain appointment calendar (in buyer's absence)
  • Take messages and return calls in buyer's absence
  • Prepare store memos
  • Return samples to vendors/companies
  • Enter purchase order information into computer system
  • Assign SKU# to all styles
  • Communicate with stores and vendors
  • Print out weekly buying reports
  • Distribute mail and reports
  • Compile all weekly and monthly inventories
  • Approve transfers
  • Cooperate with management and other buying staff associates
  • Assist team members and help in other areas as directed by supervisor or management

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications (Word, Excel, AS400, etc.)
  • Experience with office equipment (printer, calculator, etc.)
  • Must possess excellent written, verbal communication skills; good phone etiquette
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Consistency and reliability
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
