Assistant Mechatronics Engineering information

Are assistant mechatronics engineers in high demand?

Assistant mechatronics engineers are in growing demand due to the increasing integration of automation, robotics, and control systems across industries such as manufacturing, automotive, and aerospace. Strong skills in programming, electronics, and mechanical systems, along with relevant certifications, can enhance job prospects in this field.

What is an assistant mechatronics engineer?

Assistant Mechatronics Engineers are entry-level professionals who support senior engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. Their tasks often include assisting with prototyping, testing equipment, troubleshooting issues, and preparing technical documentation. They work in various industries, such as manufacturing, robotics, and automotive, to help ensure that mechatronic systems function efficiently. Typically, they work under the supervision of more experienced engineers while gaining practical experience and developing specialized skills.

What kind of job can I get with an associate in mechatronics?

An associate degree in mechatronics prepares individuals for roles such as mechatronics technician, automation technician, or robotics technician. These jobs involve maintaining, troubleshooting, and operating automated systems, robotics, and control systems in manufacturing, industrial, or research environments.

What is the difference between Assistant Mechatronics Engineering vs Mechanical Engineering Technician?

AspectAssistant Mechatronics EngineeringMechanical Engineering Technician
Required CredentialsAssociate's degree or diploma in mechatronics or related fieldDiploma or associate's degree in mechanical technology
Work EnvironmentElectronics labs, manufacturing plants, automation settingsMachine shops, manufacturing facilities, maintenance departments
Employer & Industry UsageAutomation, robotics, electronics companiesManufacturing, mechanical maintenance, product testing

Assistant Mechatronics Engineering roles focus on integrating electronics, mechanics, and software, often working with automation systems. Mechanical Engineering Technicians primarily support mechanical systems and machinery. Both roles require technical education but differ in specialization and work environment, with Assistant Mechatronics Engineering emphasizing electronics and automation, while Mechanical Engineering Technicians focus on mechanical systems.

What are some common challenges faced by assistant mechatronics engineers in their day-to-day work?

Assistant Mechatronics Engineers often encounter challenges related to troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems, integrating new technologies, and managing multiple project tasks simultaneously. They work closely with cross-functional teams, such as mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, which requires strong communication and collaboration skills. Adapting to rapidly changing project requirements and learning industry-specific tools or software are also typical hurdles, but these experiences provide valuable learning opportunities and foster professional growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assistant mechatronics engineer?

To thrive as an Assistant Mechatronics Engineer, you need a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering principles, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, PLC programming, robotics platforms, and simulation tools is commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication skills help you excel in collaborative and fast-evolving project environments. These competencies are crucial for developing, maintaining, and optimizing integrated mechatronic systems in modern engineering settings.

Test and Deployment Systems Engineer

Boxbot

Alameda, CA • On-site

Full-time

Posted 17 days ago

Job description

About Boxbot
Boxbot is transforming logistics through flexible automation, creating the dynamic storage systems of the future. As industries face increasing pressure from labor shortages, rising costs, and growing demand for efficiency, our technology provides a smarter, more scalable way to store and handle goods. We replace traditional fixed conveyors and racking with intelligent, spatially aware systems that can dynamically move, store, and retrieve items with precision and speed. Our platform seamlessly integrates advanced robotics with powerful software, delivering a unified solution that optimizes operations across a wide range of industries.
We're a close-knit, well-funded team moving quickly to bring this technology to market. We're looking for builders who take pride in their work, thrive on solving hard problems, and are excited to help shape the future of automated storage and logistics.
What to Expect
Test and Deployment Systems Engineers take our machines from first power-on through live operation at a customer site. They bring up and qualify new systems in the shop, then lead installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing in the field. They are the primary technical contact for customers during deployment and lead troubleshooting when issues arise onsite.
What You'll Do
Test and Qualification
  • Lead integration and bring-up of new machines, from first power-on through fully automated operation
  • Own test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria at every level, and characterize throughput and reliability against specification
  • Utilize test fixtures, endurance rigs, and instrumentation, and turn the resulting data into decisions
  • Work alongside controls, software, electrical, and mechanical engineers to validate new features as they are developed

Deployment and Field Support
  • Plan and run Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) with internal teams, suppliers, and customers
  • Lead onsite installation, commissioning, and startup through punch list, handover, and ramp to sustained uptime
  • Act as primary technical contact for customers: triage reported issues, communicate status, and train their teams
  • Isolate root cause across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software, drive fixes into design, and build the diagnostics that make remote support possible

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or related field, and 4+ years in test, integration, commissioning, or field engineering on electromechanical systems, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Hands-on bring-up and debug of complex electromechanical or robotic systems
  • Field or commissioning experience on industrial equipment, and comfort working independently at a customer site
  • Test planning fundamentals: test case design, acceptance criteria, and results interpretation
  • Management software experience (JAMA or similar)
  • Python for test automation and data analysis, plus instrumentation, data acquisition, and bench equipment
  • Clear technical communication, including experience working directly with customers
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, work hands-on in industrial environments, and support off-hours commissioning windows
  • Bonus: Hands on C++ code experience
  • Bonus: Warehouse automation, material handling systems, or ASRS technology
  • Bonus: Startup experience and entrepreneurial mindset

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
