Job description

Assist with planning, directing, and coordinating the activities and operations of a division, department, or organizational unit. Assist maintaining systems and procedures for operating efficiency. Assist managing staff for optimum performance. Guide and manage the provision of services, policies, and programs.

High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in landscape maintenance, grounds operations, horticulture, or a related field, including two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience; 

OR Associate's degree and three (3) years of relevant experience, including two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience. 

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
 

Field Operations & Crew Leadership 

  • Assists in the daily management of Landscape Services operations by coordinating and directing assigned crews engaged in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, irrigation, litter removal, recycling, solid waste support, and special projects. Assigns daily work, monitors progress, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to Landscape Services employees. Performs routine inspections of completed work to ensure compliance with departmental expectations, University standards, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Assists in coordinating responses to weather events, after-hours emergencies, and campus special events to maintain safe and attractive campus grounds.

Workforce Supervision & Employee Development 

  • Assists with scheduling staff, balancing workloads, and monitoring productivity to ensure efficient operations.
  • Provides input on employee performance evaluations and assists with employee coaching, training, corrective action, attendance management, and leave administration. Participates in recruitment, onboarding, and training of full-time, temporary, and student employees.
  • Promotes a positive work environment by reinforcing safety practices, customer service expectations, and departmental procedures.

Equipment, Resources & Administrative Support

  • Coordinates preventative maintenance of departmental vehicles, tools, and equipment to ensure operational readiness and safe working conditions.
  • Assists with inventory management and procurement of supplies, materials, and equipment while ensuring compliance with University purchasing procedures.
  • Maintains operational records, prepares reports, monitors work orders, and assists management in tracking labor, equipment utilization, and material usage.

Quality Assurance & Customer Service 

  • Conducts routine inspections of campus grounds and landscaping projects to ensure work meets established quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Serves as a liaison with campus departments by responding to service requests, addressing operational concerns, and communicating project updates. Assists management in implementing landscape improvements and supporting the University's sustainability and beautification initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
