Job description

Computer Vision Intern
Holliday Group, LLC · Sarasota, Florida · Full-time internship (on-site / hybrid) · Paid
Why this role exists
Construction drawings are still reviewed the way they were in 1985 — by a person, with a highlighter, page by page, hoping they catch the missing smoke detector before the inspector does. ForgePlan is our attempt to end that. We are building a system that reads a flattened architectural PDF the way an experienced plans examiner reads it — finding the rooms, the walls, the fixtures, the labels — and returns code-compliant MEP overlay guidance. The computer vision layer is the hardest part of that problem, and it is the part we are hiring for.
About us
Holliday Group, LLC is a general contractor and construction manager based in Sarasota, Florida, working across commercial tenant improvement, restaurant, retail, warehouse, office, and luxury residential projects. ForgePlan is our in-house software effort: a plan-review assist platform covering four disciplines — Electrical, Life Safety, Mechanical, and Plumbing — against NEC 2023, FBC 2023 (8th Edition), NFPA 72, FMC 2023, and FPC 2023, with a Sarasota County jurisdictional focus. We are not a lab. We have real drawings from real jobs, real inspectors, and a real deadline, which means what you build gets used and gets judged.
What success looks like
Twelve months from now, the person in this seat will have taken at least one piece of the ForgePlan vision pipeline from "sort of works on a good scan" to "we trust it on a live job set." That might be symbol detection, wall and room extraction, text and dimension OCR, or the evaluation harness that tells us whether any of it is actually improving. You will not be shadowing someone. You will own a component, defend your accuracy numbers, and watch your output land in front of licensed professionals who will tell you exactly when it is wrong.

Required

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrable ability
  • Working experience with Python and at least one computer vision or deep learning library (OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-image, or similar)
  • Comfort with image processing and geometry fundamentals: convolution, thresholding, contours, transforms, coordinate systems
  • Experience with version control (Git) and the habit of writing code someone else can read
  • Able to work on-site in Sarasota, Florida for the majority of the term
  • Genuine curiosity about a messy, unglamorous domain — the data here is scanned, rotated, inconsistently labeled, and occasionally hand-marked
Preferred

  • Coursework, research, or projects in document understanding, OCR, layout analysis, or table/form extraction
  • Exposure to PDF internals (vector content streams, text layers) via PyMuPDF, pdfplumber, pdfium, or similar
  • Familiarity with C# / .NET, or a willingness to learn it
  • Experience building annotation or evaluation tooling, not just consuming datasets
  • Any exposure to architecture, engineering, or construction — CAD, Revit, BIM, or having simply read a set of plans
  • A public portfolio: GitHub, a paper, a Kaggle result, a project writeup
We would rather hire someone with three finished projects and honest error analysis than someone with a long list of frameworks. If you meet most of the required list but not all of it, apply anyway and tell us which line you are missing and why it should not disqualify you.
What we offer
  • Paid internship — hourly rate of [$RATE]/hour, commensurate with experience and level of study
  • Full-time schedule, [TERM LENGTH] term beginning [START DATE], based at our Sarasota office at 1100 S. Tamiami Trail, Suite 302, with hybrid flexibility after onboarding
  • Direct access to the founder and to licensed contractors, superintendents, and project managers who can tell you what a drawing actually means
  • Real production data and a real user base — not a synthetic capstone dataset
  • Consideration for a full-time offer for interns who ship
